Restaurant Review: Original Sin at Holland Village in Singapore

Original Sin
#01-62 Jalan Merah Saga, Holland Village
+65 6475 5605

As the only Mediterranean vegetarian restaurant in Singapore, this old favourite is anything but sinful.

We tried a selection of specialities from the a-la-carte menu and were delighted with everything. Each item on the menu has asterisks to indicate how vegetarian it is. Vegans, for instance, can choose the two-asterisk dishes, which are both free of eggs and dairy.

For starters we had the magic mushroom ($16, and yes, they are legal); an enormous baked Portobello mushroom with ricotta cheese, spinach, pesto and pine nuts, topped with a tomato sauce and mozzarella; and the mezze platter with koresh, babaganoush, tzatziki, hummus and falafel. The platter was good, but the mushroom, which is one of their most popular dishes and has been on the menu for eleven years, was fantastic.

Then we shared the popular boscomisto ($25), spinach feta and tofu patties coated with crushed almonds and sesame seeds, with arugula, asparagus and a button mushroom plum sauce, and the moussaka. It was a tough call but the boscomisto came out tops.

As with all Michelangelo restaurants, Original Sin has a very extensive wine list, including and a good range that can be purchased by the glass. It also has an inexpensive set lunch menu, with one-for-one promotions.

Bookings are advised, as this is a well-loved haunt of Chip Bee residents and foodies from throughout the island.
