If, like me, you have eyes that light up at the sight of a plump piece of roast pumpkin sitting on fresh spinach leaves, then Original Sin is your Garden of Eden. What it lacks in meat, it more than makes up for in flavour. Put it this way: by the end of our lunch, I was the proud sister of a reformed carnivore.

We started with the restaurant’s signature mezza platter ($20), complete with warm pita bread, falafel and four dips. If you fancy something green with a twist, try the arugula salad with caramelised onions ($18). We also ordered haloumi ($18), probably my favourite dish of the day, pan-fried to toasty heavenliness. I predict “signature” status for this new item on the menu.

While we could have stayed forever on the starters page, the buttery short-crust pastry of the savoury tart (the day’s special was pumpkin, $26) was too good to resist. Comfort food fans should opt for the moussaka ($24), with lentils providing a light and perfect replacement for beef. If you’re having trouble deciding, fall back on the ever-popular Bosco misto ($26): spinach, feta and tofu patties coated in crushed almonds and sesame.

Full to the brim but never ones to say no to dessert, we loosened the belts and ordered an indulgent marble cheesecake ($12). I already have my greedy eyes on the homemade apple crumble ($12) for next time.
