Restaurant review: La Nonna in Singapore

When I stepped into La Nonna, I knew I would fall in love with the place, and I was right.

First up was a buffalo-milk mozzarella salad with basil pesto sauce, and beef carpaccio with grain mustard sauce and sundried tomatoes. The gamberi – poached prawns in Aurora sauce – were mouth-watering.

Next came the pizza; thin, crispy and laden with stuff. Of the four we tried, our favourite toppings were the prosciutto and rucola salad, and the seafood and squid-ink speciality. All washed down by a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc. We also recommend the main courses of veal shank, chicken breast, roasted sea bass and tuna. And the freshly made pasta can be served with the sauce of your choice – even if it’s not on the menu.

This may sound hard to believe, but we just managed to save a little room for dessert: pancakes stuffed with banana and Nutella, and oven-baked chocolate tart with banana, both served with vanilla ice cream.

The service is extremely friendly, warm and accommodating to requests. Great care is taken in the preparation of the dishes, the food quality is excellent and the prices are easy on the wallet. It’s a perfect setting for a ladies’ lunch.
