Il Lido is impressive even before the food gets to the table.
There aren’t many restaurants in the world with a view over both a golf course and the sea. The furniture consists of contemporary, transparent chairs and funky, brightly coloured side tables where you can put your handbag. Indoors is as attractive as out, with large comfortable sitting areas, but for me, the outdoor area was the place to be.
For the champagne brunch, attentive waiters constantly top up your glass. A set menu is offered rather than a buffet, and it was relaxing to just sit and be served. The antipasto was a selection of five dishes including calamari, beautifully presented and tasty.
I chose the rice cake with wild mushrooms instead of the pasta starter, and was delighted with the flavours and textures. The main course of monkfish was smaller than my friend’s chicken dish, and I would have liked a little more. The dessert was also light, consisting of berries and other fruit. I would have loved some chocolate. Still, the coffee was perfect.
Everything about Il Lido makes it memorable and that’s what a brunch is all about. It’s great value, too, especially the free-flow bubbly price.
