Renting dresses and designer clothes – our review!

19th January 2023 by Megan Hobson 4 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/renting-dresses-in-singapore-designer-clothes-rental-at-style-theory/

I arrived in Singapore recently with an overflowing suitcase, but I still seem to have nothing to wear. I guess old habits die hard, because it was the same with my full wardrobe back home! If you’re facing a similar problem, Style Theory has thousands of designer clothes and dresses available to rent or buy in Singapore. For a month, I experienced what it was like to have a designer wardrobe without the expensive price tag. Plus, with sustainable fashion in vogue, I review how Style Theory is a convenient alternative to online shopping for a fraction of the cost and guilt! And read to the end and find out how you too can rent a designer wardrobe with Style Theory’s one-month free trial!

I reviewed renting everyday wear and work outfits and also some sexy date night dresses. It was fun keeping up with current trends and trying new designer styles each week, without causing a closet overload. Here’s what I discovered renting designer clothes in Singapore from Style Theory; it might make you keen to spruce up your wardrobe too.

My review of Style Theory

Renting clothes in Singapore

I’ve always been a hesitant online shopper, so I was a little nervous reviewing Style Theory. My greatest worries were around the fit on my body shape and when to size up or down. However, Style Theory has thought through these common concerns with its clothing rental service in Singapore.

As part of your profile setup, you add approximate body measurements such as your height, hips and bust. Then, when you view each item of clothing on the app, the garments’ specific measurements are compared to your own. No need to question generic size charts. I’ve managed to find the perfect fit every time I rented dresses and clothing in Singapore with Style Theory.

The app also includes fabric descriptions like levels of stretch, sheer and general fit. And, if you’re like me and prefer to see how the clothes look when they’re being worn, the review section encourages photo uploads. So you can see the clothing on others first. Besides, you can wear a piece once, send it back and move on to a new outfit without feeling guilt about making sustainable fashion choices.

I found browsing on the app for designer clothing was easy using the categorisations based on popular dress codes and styles. You can rent a dress or outfit in Singapore for staycations, work and everyday wear.

My first fashion subscription box arrived on schedule in two days, and a week later I instantly swapped the box. A huge plus is not having to worry about washing any of the clothes you rent.

Other things to know about renting designer clothes in Singapore through Style Theory

Style Theory combines collective sustainable fashion with the convenience of shopping online. You sign up for a retail subscription and complete your profile on the Style Theory app to browse through the large selection of clothing.

After adding an item to your subscription box, it’s reserved for two hours or until you select a delivery or swap date. All the clothes are professionally cleaned, fully pressed and ready to wear on arrival.

For your next delivery, you can swap a few or all of your items and just need to place them back in the box and reusable shipping bag provided. The delivery and dry cleaning is free.

Some of the items are also available for sale, so you can rent first and buy later, sustainably shopping and enjoying low prices on designer items.

Which fashion subscription box should you choose?

Our review of style theory

There are three clothing subscription options for renting clothes in Singapore with Style Theory. Every plan comes with free doorstep delivery and instant swaps. You also have the ability to pause or cancel any time with no strings attached.

#1 The capsule plan is for someone wanting to mix up their current wardrobe and rent a few new clothes in Singapore each week. This monthly fashion subscription includes two boxes with three items inside each box for $89 per month.

#2 The essentials plan provides more flexibility to explore different daytime styles and rent a dress for your date night in Singapore. The fashion subscription includes an extra box each month with three items inside for $129.

#3 The ultimate plan is $159 per month. It’s aptly named because you’ll have the convenience of barely needing to grab an item from your closet with four boxes a month.

The pros and cons of renting dresses and clothes

Where to rent designer clothes, trying the style theory app

The sustainable fashion factor and convenience of delivery, pickup and garment care are certainly fantastic perks renting designer clothes in Singapore. The only difficulty I experienced while reviewing Style Theory was the availability of some clothes I wanted to rent.

Not every designer piece comes in all sizes, and not everything is available. However, with such an extensive selection of over 40,000 styles in XXS to XL, it was easy to find a replacement piece.
