The dip in the private home market continues and has analysts predicting a price drop of 20 percent over 2014 and 2015. The past eight years saw a market undersupply that produced both demand and government cooling measures. Now that it’s tipped into over-supply and prices are visibly softening, buyers appear poised to re-enter the market as and when they feel the time is right. This is helping to negate worries of a property crash.
A recent Barclays report predicts a vacancy rate of as much as 10 percent at the peak of oversupply. The rental market is clearly impacted by this and is very firmly in the tenants’ favour. Glum landlords can look forward to August as it brings with it new arrivals from overseas after the summer holidays and in time for the new school year.
