Party glamour: Make-up ideas for the Christmas season

When it comes to dressing up your face, focusing on one element per look (just the lips or eyes, for example) is the way to go. Pro makeup artist Kelly Bilimoria shows us three glam evening looks you can easily replicate at home for your next night out, with our very own fabulous EL ladies, Natalie, Leanda and Rachael, as models.  (Psst…for more help on prepping for Christmas, including gift guides and where to find live trees, head here.)

Look One: Bold lips & Tousled Curls

For the lips:

• Take the lip pencil and outline your lips. Start from the outer corners and work your way inwards in short strokes.
• Fill in your lips with the lip pencil, which will make the colour last longer.
• Apply lipstick.
• Add a touch of gloss in the centre of your bottom lip.

Get the look with:

• Rimmel Indian Pink Lip Liner
• Make Up For Ever Rouge Intense Lipstick #36 “Satin Fuchsia”
• Rimmel Kiss Off Lip Gloss #310 “Night Before”

For the hair:

• Start curling with a large-barrelled hair curler.
• As you curl, apply a generous spritz of hair spray to keep your curls defined.
• Run your hands through the curls or flip your hair upside down to loosen the curls.
• Finish with hairspray.

• Toni & Guy Classic Spray Gel for Curls
• Toni & Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray

Look Two: Slicked Hair And Bold Eye Shadow

For the eyes:

• Apply a bronze eye shadow over the whole eyelid.
• Apply a gold eye shadow to the inner corner of your eye, and then soften with a blending brush.
• Apply a white or pearl-coloured shadow on the brow bone, and then blend.
• Carefully add a purple shadow to the outer corner of the eyelid and blend inwards about a third of the way.
• Add a touch of depth with a darker purple shadow applied to just the outer corner. Use a blending brush to soften any harsh lines.
• Add a thick coat of mascara and a slick of eyeliner to finish.

Get the look with:

• Marc Jacobs eye shadow in Bronze, Gold and Pearl White
• Make Up For Ever eye shadow #922
• Inglot Rainbow eye shadow #114R* MAC Haute & Naughty Mascara
• Kate Eyeliner in Black

For the hair:

• Curl your hair with a hair curler.
• Section the crown of your hair and set it aside.
• Gather the remaining hair into a loosely held ponytail, twist and pin.
• Continue to pin the hair until secured, leaving any loose strands to fall naturally.
• Take the remaining hair and backcomb the crown area.
• Once you have achieved the desired amount of volume, pin the hair into the back by taking small sections and crossing them over each other.
• Touch up any loose hair by re-curling it, and finish with a touch of hair spray.

• Toni & Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray

Look Three: Cat Eyes, Glowing Skin & Slicked Hair

For the eyes:

• Take an angled brush and dip it into gel or cream eyeliner. Make sure you take an ample amount on your brush.
• Using your brush, make a line from the outer corner of the eye. This will be your “flick”; you can then determine the size of the line you want.
• Apply eyeliner from the inner corner of your eyelid to the outer corner or where it meets the flick.
• Fill in any gaps, using small strokes.
• Add a thick coat of mascara to finish the look.

Get the look with:

• Make Up For Ever Aqua Black Eyeliner
• Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara

For the cheeks:

Take a bronzing brush and blush. Swirl the product in an upward direction from the apples of your cheeks to your hairline to create a soft, sun-kissed look.

Get the look with:

• The Balm Hot Mama Blusher

For the hair:

• Start with straightened hair.
• Using a brush, push your hair back and apply hairspray liberally.
• To make sure the hair stays slicked, apply gel or bobby pins on either side, and allow it to set in place.

Get the look with:

• Toni & Guy Creative Texturizing Glue
• Toni & Guy Glamour Firm Hold Hairspray
