On picturesque Joo Chiat Road, Talia Hair and Beauty – deriving its name from the Hebrew word meaning “dew from heaven” – has quickly become one of the neighbourhood’s favourites since opening a few months ago. No surprise there. After all, this is one of Singapore’s few exclusive organic hair salons specialising in plant-based, organic hair colours and treatments using premium Italian haircare brand My.Organics. Talia also offers hair restructuring silk protein treatments from luxury French brand Balmain.

The EL team recently tried some treatments at this lovely organic hair salon on Joo Chiat Road – here’s what we thought!
What: Talia Oily Scalp Treatment ($140)
Ask any professional hairdresser, and they’ll say you’re not supposed to wash your hair daily. But the city’s hot humidity makes it hard not to! Maybe that’s why my scalp, stripped of its natural oils and therefore racing to produce more, has become oilier since I moved to Singapore. Using a dermatoscope, my hairdresser Jason examined my scalp’s not-so-pretty build-up before treating it to some My.Organics hair mud. This is infused with bergamot and lemon extracts, known to purify and control sebum. A blissful scalp massage and 15 minutes under the steamer later, he lathered on some scalp-compatible conditioner. It’s hand-blended with Himalaya crystal salt to help detox the scalp and draw out impurities.
Another massage and steam session ensured the nourishing goodness was properly absorbed. After washing it all off with the Goji Supreme Shampoo with drops of lemon essential oil added in, Jason gave my hair a quick curl. A final moment of truth under the dermatoscope: to my delight, it revealed a near sparkling-clean scalp. What surprised me the most was the difference post-treatment. My scalp felt great and noticeably fresher for days. I’ve even been able to go longer between washes. I’ll definitely have to return to this lovely Joo Chiat Road hair salon whenever my scalp craves a deep cleanse.

Talia Organic Goji Hydrating Hair Treatment ($120-$160)
I have regular facials, but am now appreciating the need to look after my scalp and hair in a similar way. This 90-minute treatment flew by. Jason started with a relaxing hair wash and head massage using the Goji Supreme Shampoo. He added in a few drops of lemon oil to clear follicles and strengthen the hair. Then, a mineral salt spray was applied to detangle and prepare the hair for the mask. I then spent twenty minutes with my head under a steamer to help the mask penetrate, and then another wash and scalp massage.
My.Organics products are made in Italy, certified organic and smell lovely. The Goji range especially hydrates, repairs, and regenerates dry and damaged hair. My hair afterwards is smooth, silky, and shiny. After the first wash at home, it still retains its sheen and smoothness, taking less time to dry and experiencing much less frizz. This would be great to do between colour treatments. I can schedule them before a night out and get the added benefit of a double wash and blow-dry!

What: Talia Organic Hair Colouring ($130-$180)
I was pleased to find that the My.Organics organic hair colour products used at Talia don’t contain any toxic chemicals such as resorcinol, PPD or formaldehyde and are safe and healthy for your hair. This was my first time using this organic hair colour range. My stylist took time to discuss the best option for me to address my greying roots and tone down the brassiness in my hair.
When the organic hair colour was applied, I didn’t feel the usual tingling on my scalp. Plus, all the products used smelled amazing. As my hair is quite dry and damaged, I opted for a top-up Goji Hydrating treatment ($60). I took in the divine scent as I enjoyed a relaxing scalp massage. The colour was a little darker than my usual shade due to the products’ organic nature. But the shine and condition looked great. I’m keen to return to try the organic highlight treatment for a more summery look next time. The prices at Talia are very reasonable and the team ensures you are well looked after at every step!
