Moving On: Removal companies in Singapore

Finding the right company to entrust with your worldly possessions is an important decision, so we asked some of our readers to explain why they chose their removal companies to handle their precious cargo.

“Andrew has been an expatriate for 21 years, and together he and I have spent the last 15 years living abroad. Shyla Mathews, managing director of SIR Moves, and I are childhood friends, and after she and CEO Charlie Scott started the company a decade ago, our decision to use them was a very simple one.

We trusted them and, with Charlie’s extensive experience spanning over two decades in the industry, we knew we were in good hands. We were very impressed with their prompt and personal service and the team’s consistent quality and efficiency.

SIR has relocated us from Bangkok to Hong Kong, Hong Kong to Bahrain, Bahrain to Singapore, and finally now Singapore to Perth. After these multiple moves we are pleased to say nothing has been lost, broken or damaged. The team is professional at all times and our moves have all been completed on time. We would absolutely use SIR again and have recommended them to our friends over the years. However, it is our hope that Perth will be our final move, or at least for long a while! ”

“I was making a move within Singapore at the last minute. While no other company could take on my move because it was going to be over a weekend, Raffles Relocation accommodated my request, despite it being peak period.

I run a drama centre and am a theatre and film director, so I was moving with some very precious belongings including theatre props, awards and household items. It was important to keep them safe.

I had seen Raffles Relocation’s consistent presence on Facebook and read through a few testimonials by their clients. They seemed genuine and reliable, and, what’s more, they agreed to move on a Sunday.

Their relocation manager Ms Lau was very attentive, she understood my situation and she made sure that she assigned the right people for the job. The men arrived on time, and they went about their work very quietly and without any fuss. It was wonderful to see them treating each item with so much care. They even went the extra mile to return a day later with a handyman to help move a bed that had a jammed screw. I was delighted by their attention to detail and customer focus, which appears to be in their DNA.

When you move, it’s towards a change, whether for better or worse. At times like this, you really want a mover who understands your needs and who will make the transition effortless. For me, Raffles Relocation is that company and I would trust them with my belongings for any move, whether it be my office or my home. ”

“We moved from Chicago to Singapore for my husband’s job. I had read good reviews about Allied Pickfords, so I arranged to meet with a representative, who proved to be knowledgeable and very professional.

The company was incredibly communicative and kept us informed every step of the way. Our container was delayed for quite some time due to the ship being detained in several ports; however, my agent emailed us with every change and let us know when we should expect our delivery.

When our shipment did arrive, the movers in Singapore were very efficient and unpacked our home within several hours. They removed all packing materials and left our condo very neat. They also had no trouble with moving two large couches, which was a huge relief.

In terms of what could actually be controlled, the move went very smoothly, and we will definitely use them again when we eventually move back to the US. ”

“We were living in Melbourne and were relocating to Singapore with my company. We chose to go with Asian Tigers Mobility as they had been recommended through colleagues at work who had also relocated from Australia and had had a great experience.

We can’t fault any part of the experience we had with Asian Tigers: the communication in advance was great, they turned up according to the schedule, they had made all the necessary arrangements with the condo in advance, and they completed the job in half the time they said it would take. The team was efficient too, unpacking everything with care and without damage to any goods (including plenty of wine and glassware).

It was amazing watching the apartment take shape so quickly as they unpacked, built, stacked and filled the empty space! It was a very smooth move, and I can highly recommend them as a removal company. ”

“When our move from Devonshire Road to Marina Boulevard came up, I wanted to make sure we got a good removals company. This was our second Singapore move – the first had turned into a very bad experience. We were looking for good service and people who would actually take good care of our furniture. The other important factor was timing, as we wanted to move in one day.

A friend recommended Oranje Movers, and they were one of the companies I met with as I went through my checklist of good moving companies. Alvin Aik came to our house to give us a quote and went through everything in detail. He told us how much time the move would require, including packing, loading and unloading our furniture. He went through our furniture and special packing material for our valuables.

On packing day the team came in at 9am sharp; they packed everything in one day, taking special care of our valuables. Alvin called in the afternoon and recommended they load half of the furniture that afternoon; the next day he would deploy two teams, one to load the remaining furniture, and one to go to our next home and start unloading. They were so efficient; they had our furniture stacked in the hallway so that the moment we got our keys they were ready to bring it all inside. Everything was completed on time, and, most importantly, without any stress at all and no damage to our furniture.

We have already recommended Oranje to our friends and family, and the feedback from everyone has been positive. We’re also currently building a house, and we plan to use them again later this year. ”
