Want your preschooler aged 18 months to 6 years old to experience the magic of a Montessori education? Brighton Montessori has started taking applications for 2016 registrations, making it the perfect time to arrange a tour at any of their six centres across Singapore – find them at Fort Road, Frankel Avenue, Mountbatten Road, Sunset Way, The Grassroots’ Club at Ang Mo Kio Ave 8 and (drum roll) the brilliant new facility at Great World City that’ll have River Valley mums queuing at the door!
Twenty years on in the quest to provide quality preschool education, Brighton Montessori’s vision remains the same – to nurture a love for lifelong learning and prepare children for formal education through a structured curriculum based on reputed Italian doctor and educator Maria Montessori’s hands-on learning approach.
All of which sounds amazing, but what does it really mean in practice? Simply that each little learner at Brighton Montessori is able to progress at their own pace within a supportive, stimulating and creative environment with trained Montessori educators by their side (think super-low teacher-child ratios of 1:6 in Pre-Nursery and 1:14 in Kindergarten).
But it’s not all play (although Junior will think it is)! The curriculum focuses on five key Montessori areas – Practical Life Skills, Sensorial Activities, Language, Mathematics and Cultural Studies – to develop each child’s cognitive, academic, emotional and social skills. Yes, we’re talking about all those lovely traits such as confidence, creativity, independence, respect, cooperation and responsibility, in addition to literacy and numeracy.
Add other daily activities, including Mandarin, Music and Movement, Art and Craft, Outdoor Activities and Show and Tell, to the timetable, along with field trips, water play, class parties, holiday programmes and enrichment programmes, and you can hang your hat on the fact that your child’s early years education will be a well-rounded one!
Plus, we love that there’s an open-door communication policy between teachers and parents, meaning Mums and Dads can get all the feedback they want on their child’s development (which is monitored daily). Expect regular parent-teacher sessions and progress meetings, weekly updates and the opportunity to meet other parents at sports days, festive celebrations, concerts and class exhibitions.
So, which programme will your child fit into exactly? Pre-Nursery starts from 1.5-2 years old, followed by Nursery 1 for 2-3 year olds, Nursery 2 for 3-4 year olds, Kindergarten 1 for 4-5 year olds and Kindergarten 2 for 5-6 year olds until they’re a month off seven and ready for big school. Choose from Half Day morning and afternoon sessions or Full Day programmes from 7am-7pm – and Brighton Montessori is even open Saturdays from 7am-2pm!
To find out more about how Brighton Montessori can enrich your child’s preschool experience, you can arrange a personal guided tour at any of their centres. Complimentary Montessori Immersion Trial sessions are also available at selected centres for you and your little ones to experience first-hand what a class at Brighton Montessori is like!
