Montessori learning & playgroups at this cool space!

2nd March 2023 by Patricea Chow 3 Min Read

A child’s learning journey at this enrichment centre may begin at 10 months, but it comes full circle in the years that follow, through a wide range of playgroups, activities and opportunities through Montessori learning.

Located at The Yards at Joo Chiat, Mosaic Play Academy (MPA) provides enrichment programmes for children all the way up to age 16. Centre Manager CHOW KEAT YENG shares some insights.

PlaySpace – for 10 months to four years

“This is a community space for kids to play and get messy, and for parents to potentially meet other families. Our four fun PlaySpaces are the Gym, Outdoor Play with a playground and green grass, Soft Play with a ball pit and climbing structures, and Creative Play complete with a pretend play section. Parents can also book this space exclusively for birthday parties. Those who need to work can book a spot in the co-working spaces and have a caregiver present for tiny tots. There’s also a nursing room for mothers to use.”

Playgroups – for kids up to three years

“The MPA curriculum is centred around the development of the whole child using a multi-sensory approach. It’s explorative in nature – children learn through hands-on exploration and play. This fosters a love for learning, while allowing the child to be independent and engage in social interaction. We also emphasise a love for the environment by spending time outdoors and through topics on how the world around works.”

Integrating PlaySpace, Playgroups and Preschool

“Young tots in our Playgroup programme enjoy exclusive use of the PlaySpace via activities planned around movement and dramatisation. They engage in open-ended free play to exercise their imagination. Parents can choose to transition their child at 18 months or at three years old to Mosaic Preschool to continue their education.”

Enrichment Programmes

“Our enrichment programmes cater to children from two to 16 years. Programmes such as Lego Robotics, reading and sports allow children to explore, learn and discover through playful interaction and fun activities. Younger children can participate in our creative arts programme, which uses play-based dramatic exercises to engage the body, voice and imagination in creative self-expression.”

Parent Involvement

“We have a mummy’s club for mothers to connect and grow together with MPA. It features a host of programmes including sports and talks to encourage meaningful connections.”

Making the transition

Principal of the Eunos campus of Mosaic Preschool, MOHAMMAD AIZAT HASHIM, shares how a child can transition seamlessly to the preschool from MPA’s Playgroup.

“The methodologies of MPA and Mosaic Preschool are very much aligned. So your child will experience a fuss-free and enjoyable transition between our schools and continue their learning journey after Playgroup.

Our preschool is guided by our renowned play-based education, which uses an immersive and experiential approach towards learning. We empower children to explore, discover, create and learn through lots of engaging and meaningful play experiences.

Besides a trilingual programme, we’re also the first preschool offering a myriad of co-curricular programmes under our roof. Electives like swimming, speech and drama, ballet, arts and music, Montessori learning, robotics and coding can be customised according to a child’s interests and capabilities to widen their holistic development and attitude to learning.

We often involve parents, too, inviting them to events and field trips to make the children’s learning experiences more wholesome. Students also have lots of take-home activities, which aim to connect school and home learning experiences and let parents discover the topics being learnt in school.”

Mosaic Play Academy is at 402 Joo Chiat Place.
