Adjusting to your changing shape while you are pregnant doesn’t need to be difficult! There’s heaps of great options for maternity wear in Singapore and our panel of fashion experts share their tips on how to dress your bump in style (and comfort!), whatever the occasion!
“Keep in vogue by picking dresses that flatter your bump. For evening, the Soiree off-shoulder dress has got you covered!” – REBECCA LOKE, EMMA & KEI
“I’ve always been a fan of the drop-waist dress. It’s flattering on everyone, but especially those with a rounder tummy and for expectant mums who still want to look stylish! For mums to-be who want to show off their bump, our jersey dresses are comfortable yet still elegant.” – EMMA FEMMINILE, WHITE GINGER
“Our bodies change so much during pregnancy, but for most women it’s a time when their hair and skin has never looked better. My suggestion is that you draw attention to your glowing complexion, great hair and growing curves with a short statement necklace and fabulous earrings. In my experience, long necklaces may be a nuisance and bracelets and rings can feel constricting “- LEAH LAMBERT, STONES THAT ROCK
“I think pregnant women look their very best and blooming when they are comfortable. For the tropics, my tip is to stay cool and calm when it comes to your wardrobe. Go for a beach babe look that flatters the tummy: a beautiful embellished kaftan, or an easy wearing yet stylish Kenz & Kate maxi, and a messy bun. Slick on some lip gloss and a pair of comfortable flat sandals, and off you go!” – TIFFANY MAUGHAN, SHOPPING AT TIFFANY’S
“Singapore is so hot, and when you’re pregnant you’re hauling around more weight than normal, your legs feel heavy and your lower back can hurt. So, no matter what fashion designers and their trends of the season tell you, for dressing your baby-bump, you need utmost comfortable wear! To do it in style, I would opt for A-line shaped dresses in cotton and linen for a flattering silhouette.” – SOPHIE DI BELLA, ALFIE BROWNS
Organic Cotton Mexican Tile dress by Baliza, $89, available at Zerrin, zerrin.com
Tip: Fun prints can help balance your proportions!
Tunic, Zara, $89.90 Tip: There’s no need to shy away from stripes. Patterns are always more flattering than block colours on areas you’re more conscious about.
Maternity jeans, Topshop, $89.90 Tip: If there’s one official maternity range piece you won’t regret buying, it will be a pair of jeans with a stretch waistband to accommodate your growing middle. There are versions which sit both under and over the bump for extra support in the second or third trimester.
Sneakers, Keds, $79 Tip: Pregnancy hormones can cause feet and ankles to swell, so investing in stylish and comfortable shoes is a must. Thankfully, the sneaker trend seems to be here to stay!
