Are you planning a destination wedding?

13th May 2019 by Lindsay Yap 3 Min Read

Singapore is perfectly placed for finding a tropical island wedding destination, and sunny Koh Samui a prime candidate. One great option for the big event is the InterContinental Koh Samui Resort, located on the island’s lush southwest coast, with stunning views and luxe amenities – plus, it’s just a two-hour flight away. Need more convincing? Read on!

Have your dream wedding on the beach

#1 Setting

Named as one of the “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” by the New York Times, the sprawling and scenic property offers many great venues for the ceremony and a reception or dinner party. One of the most popular spots is, of course, the beach itself. Around 200 guests can be accommodated at the resort’s location by the beach, with a private beachfront lawn to seal the deal. If you prefer panoramic views of surrounding gardens and limestone cliffs, choose the Azure Lounge or the Air Bar deck. Or, for something unique, choose the private pier for saying your vows, or do so over the infinity pool (one of the longest overwater wedding aisle in Asia) with the gorgeous backdrop of Samui’s forests and ocean. If you’re worried about weather, there are great indoor spaces with amazing views too.

#2 Packages

The resort offers options to suit every couple, and wedding guests can enjoy exclusive rates on rooms and villas. Most packages offer a variety of decorations and bouquets that will have you all set for your special day, with the inclusion of a couple’s massage at Baan Thai Spa by Harnn.

The Western Ceremony Package includes a beautiful ceremony followed by a sit-down dinner or beach barbecue, and a walk down a stunning floral path to your very own wedding gazebo. Or choose the Thai Ceremony instead, with traditional wedding customs such as a long drum parade, merit-making, a rod nam (water blessing) ceremony and a Buddhist monk blessing. You’ll also be dressed in Thai traditional costume – a memorable way to tie the knot!

For something even more special, the Private Villa Wedding Package includes a private villa stay and private use of the grass lawn for up to 200 guests. Accommodation for friends and family is provided for a night in four beachfront villas.

If you want to keep it just between you and your partner, pick the Intimate Affair Package that offers a personal set-up just for two. Exchange vows in the venue of your choice, enjoy a romantic dinner under the stars and head back to your villa for a bubble bath.

#3 Entertainment

Impress your guests!

As everyone enjoys their evening meal after the ceremony, a live band can serenade the crowd with tunes, of, if you prefer, a DJ can play to get the guests moving. You can even end the night with a bang with some fireworks or a fire dance. While toasting to your future, you and your guests can release beautiful Thai lanterns into the sky, symbolising good luck.

#4 Activities

Whether you’re with family and friends or just there as a couple, the resort has loads to offer – including seven pools, and the ocean for water sports. Get a workout with a Muay Thai lesson or rejuvenate with a morning yoga session, then drop by the spa for a relaxing massage. Another popular option is to whip up local eats with a cooking class with Master Chef Tao, where you’ll learn classic dishes such as Tom Yum Goong and Pad Thai.

Looking for more? Explore the natural wonders of Koh Samui through a variety of excursions to nearby islands such as Koh Tao, Koh Nang Yuan and Koh Mae, with their towering waterfalls, gorgeous coral reefs and the chance to get up close to pink dolphins.
