Singapore’s very first “100 percent healthy food court” is open for business.
Eight food stalls cook up hawker favourites, but with a few tweaks, like replacing pork lard with low-cholesterol vegetable oil, and deep-fried chicken with grilled chicken. Expect skinless Hainanese chicken rice and reduced-sugar desserts.
The venture is a joint initiative between Kopitiam Investment and the NUH Department of Dietetics and is supported by the Health Promotion Board. If this first outlet is successful, be on the lookout for healthy kopitiams popping up island-wide.
The new healthy hawker centre is pleasantly called Kopitiam on Le Patio on Level 3 of National University Hospital in the Kent Ridge Wing (6.30am to 10.00pm daily).
