International schools in Singapore: Who’s got the latest, greatest Early Years Centre in town?

The Australian International School (AIS) today announced the build of a unique Early Years Centre and enhanced curriculum for Nursery and Preschool. With a Sports Arena, a 22-metre swimming pool, five dedicated library and resource centres, brilliant new music and drama programmes, plus a structured physical education program and daily Mandarin – AIS’s latest facility for children from 18-months to 6-years-old will have little ones packing their own backpacks so they don’t miss out on any action at school.

The purpose-built Early Years Centre, which is set to launch in January 2017, was officially inaugurated in a ground-breaking ceremony led by His Excellency the Governor-General of Australia, Sir Peter Cosgrove. Flick through our photo gallery below for a taster of this new state-of-the-art campus!

But it’s not just the facilities that are getting a boost. Guided by the Australian Early Years Curriculum within the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate Programme, AIS’s exciting Early Years education will feature new and enhanced specialist areas from January 2016. This includes a Speech and Drama Program, which follows the curriculum and examinations of the world-renowned London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). LAMDA has over 150 years’ experience fuelling the performing arts across the globe, and has trained a whole list of famous alumni (including Kim Cattrall from Sex and the City and Benedict Cumberbatch from BBC’s Sherlock). Encore!

AIS Nursery and Preschool students will also enjoy structured Physical Education under the SMART Steps Perceptual Motor Program (PMP), designed to enhance key movement patterns essential for body and brain development.

Budding musicians will thrive under AIS’s new music program, including weekly violin instruction from 3 years up and the Orff Musical Literacy Program starting from age 2, which uses improvisation, composition and a child’s natural instincts to create music. The cognitive and social benefits of music education are well-known and extend beyond the studio into the classroom, helping young learners build stamina and focus, develop IQ and fine motor skills, and improve posture.
