An international preschool near your home!

29th April 2021 by Patricea Chow 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/international-preschool-near-me-in-singapore/

If you’ve been googling “international preschool near me”, here’s one that has 10 locations spread across the east, west, north and central areas of Singapore. So it’s highly likely you’ll find one that’s close to home or work. Find out what else White Lodge International Preschool & Childcare has to offer, plus some campus news, below.

The White Lodge international preschool experience

The approach of the White Lodge team is that children should experience learning as an adventure. So they encourage active learning and discovery through a hands-on approach and in a nurturing environment. And they’ve been doing so for more 21 years; that means plenty of experience in personalising the learning approach for each child.

They also encourage community involvement in children’s learning. For example, the school celebrates a host of cultural festivals and has a student body made up of many different nationalities. Parents also have the option of enrolling children in half-, full- or extended day options over two, three or five days.

New annexe at Phoenix Park campus

A special annexe is opening in May at the Phoenix Park campus. While the campus already provides preschool, nursery and kindergarten for those in the Orchard, Tanglin and River Valley locales, the White Lodge team noticed a trend in more queries for the younger age groups. So they created a dedicated facility for the youngest learners.

The new Early Learning Centre has been designed specifically for children from 18 months to 3.5 years of age. Located on the ground floor of a colonial building, it has two spacious classrooms with a wide range of learning resources, an open multipurpose area and age-appropriate bathroom facilities. There’s also a dedicated outdoor space offering a wide range of sensory play opportunities. The building is surrounded by leafy greenery to encourage child-centred and play-based learning, in line with the forest school approached popularised in the UK.

As an international preschool, White Lodge recognises that children develop many skills that are best acquired in the outdoors; for this reason, it takes a “forest school’ approach. All kinds of activities are on offer, allowing children to develop a range of skills from teamwork to independence. These include cooking, gardening and building structures, making and playing with tools, climbing trees, observing insects or simply exploring the environment and inventing their own games. In this way, and with encouragement, a child can learn how to assess their environment before taking appropriate risks; the result is an increase in confidence and self-esteem.

Louise Grant, White Lodge’s Managing Director, says she’s excited about the developments at Phoenix Park. “Under the leadership of Ms Zilah, formerly of the Australian International School, and Ms Kathy, the White Lodge Phoenix Park Early Learning Centre promises a premium and unique learning environment.”

Half-, full- and extended day options

Just as children are given flexibile learning approaches at White Lodge, parents also have flexibility around how often and how long they want their preschool child to attend. The programmes available are:

  • Half day: 8am to 2.15pm
  • Full day: 8am to 5pm
  • Extended day programme: 8am to 6pm

With the extended full-day option, kids can look forward to participating in a variety of daily activity clubs such as the Book and Virtues Club, plus after-school activities including nature discovery and mindfulness and meditation.
