Calling all rugby fans! The annual HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens is back for possibly its final run from 13 to 14 April at the National Stadium. As part of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series, this family-friendly tournament will feature some of the top teams from around the world and an exciting entertainment lineup for adults and kids alike. Here are just some of the weekend activities to look forward to.

Top teams on the field

Spectators can expect yet another year of fast-paced and thrilling action on the pitch. This year, Japan will join the core group of 15 top national teams, along with Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Kenya, New Zealand, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, USA and Wales. Coming into the Singapore event, New Zealand and the US are currently tied at 76 points apiece on the Sevens Series standings, with Fiji third on 72 points.

There have been plenty of memorable moments over the past three editions of the Singapore leg of the Series. Underdog teams Kenya and Canada won the first two editions, while last year’s tournament concluded in a dramatic fashion when Fiji triumphed Australia by the slimmest of margins. You can expect no less action during this year’s games.

Family-friendly fun

Got little ones to entertain? Headlining the family fun this year is the team from DreamWorks who’ll be featuring their All Stars line-up through a host of interactive experiences. Kids will love the hands-on activities, meet-and-greets and stage shows by characters from the studio’s popular movies such as Trolls, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and more. The kids can also look forward to free all-day screenings of DreamWorks television series such as Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and Dragons: Race to the Edge!

Music and more

You can also look forward to some great tunes during this year’s event. American rock band Smash Mouth will take the stage on the Saturday, to belt out massive hit “All Star” and other crowd favourites, while the next day you can sing along with the cast from Broadway’s Tony Award-nominated musical adaptation of Rock of Ages who will be performing loads of 80s rock hits. In addition, there’ll be live performances from popular local acts, roaming entertainment and a big-screen show throughout the two-day event, with chances to win unique prizes and experiences.

New this year

Fresh to the table in 2019, get pumped for the Singapore Sevens Splash Party that offers an amazing lineup of local and internationally acclaimed artists. It’s held right next to the Singapore Sports Hub’s Splash-N-Surf, so get ready to get wet and party hard!
