Do women really like muscular men?

15th April 2019 by Anthia Chng 2 Min Read

In short, yes! The preference is for a physically strong body – so, defined abs (or, even better, a six-pack), bulging biceps and a muscular chest. This has been proven true, and we’re not surprised! In new research conducted by Griffith University in Queensland, Australia, photographs of male torsos were shown to 160 women for them to rate. Of the women surveyed, not even one had favoured the un-muscled bodies over the stronger, muscular ones.

As for you gents, if extreme diets and intense workout routines haven’t given you the results you’ve wanted, maybe it’s time to try something a little different. With a little help in the aesthetics department, it’s actually possible to achieve the abs (or chest) of your dreams. Here we discover VASER Hi-Def Lipo, a minimally invasive, ultrasound fat removal procedure commonly used to sculpt areas like the abs.

How does it work?

VASER Hi-Def Lipo was developed by Colombian plastic surgeon Dr Alfredo Hoyos with the aim of creating a more sculpted and athletic appearance by improving the contours of the subcutaneous fat and the definition of the underlying muscles. This minimally invasive process removes both the superficial and deep fat layers surrounding muscle groups, thus enhancing a toned and defined look.

The targeted areas are first marked out. An insertion is made and a device emitting ultrasonic waves is inserted, gently breaking down the fat cells. Suction is used to sculpt the muscular anatomy without causing damage to surrounding tissues, and a small amount of fat will be left to amplify the underlying muscle tone.

In women, commonly targeted areas include the serratus, obliques and rectus muscles in the abdominal area. The gluteus and paraspinal muscles are other targets. For men, the most desired physical trait is washboard abs. To achieve this, the same abdominal muscles, as well as the pectoralis muscles, are targeted.

What should I do after the surgery?

You’ll need to lay off any exercise for at least one month. Visible results are apparent immediately after the procedure, while muscle definition is typically noticed two weeks after post-operative oedema has been resolved. Expect some swelling on the treated areas, and it may take three to six months for the final results to set in. As with traditional liposuction, fat cells are removed for the long term. It’s important to keep your expectations in check as VASER Hi-Def Lipo is a body-contouring procedure, not a weight-loss program.

Who should I go to?

VASER Hi-Def Lipo should only be performed by doctors who are VASER-certified and licensed by the Ministry Of Health (MOH) Singapore to perform liposuction procedures. Amaris B. Clinic’s medical director, Dr Ivan Puah, is accredited by MOH Singapore, to perform liposuction. Additionally, he is a VASER-certified physician who has received his body sculpting and liposuction training in Italy, the US and Argentina.
