How to brew your own beer

Brew your own beer

Some home brew is very drinkable, some not so much, but when you’re paying S$12 a pint, making your own beer suddenly becomes a whole lot more palatable.

You can pick up a beginner kit from iBrew (9002 0705) for S$175 and that includes everything you need for your first batch of 23 litres.

For more experienced brewers, iBrew also sells many different types of “green” (hops) and as long as you’re not distilling, selling or producing more than 30 litres a month it’s legal.

According to the experts, home brewing costs one fifth of what you’d pay for a commercial beer so if you focus on sterilising and temperature control you can start supping drinkable beer without too much effort, experience or stomach upset.
