Hot properties to rent and buy in Singapore, December 2013

By: Deborah Law, Executive Director, Expat Realtor

Last June’s introduction of the Total Debt Servicing Ratio on top of previous cooling measures saw the number of sales transactions plunge, some say as much as 40 percent. The measures have definitely worked and some would say the market is positively freezing.

However, it is hard to keep the Singapore market down for long, and foreign buyers seem to be stepping back into the private sales market. Specifically interested are permanent residents (PRs) who are choosing to buy instead of rent. New PRs, who now have to wait three years to buy an HDB (Housing Development Board) flat, are also turning to the private market.

Rentals are staying soft with more supply than demand, although popular condos that are at high capacity have been able to keep their prices stable.

Happy hunting!
