Happy Year of the Wood Sheep! This is considered by feng shui followers to be an auspicious year. In the Chinese zodiac, the sheep (or ram or goat) represents solidarity, harmony and calmness. It also represents flexibility and compromise, making it easier to reach agreement in spite of conflicting interests. Sounds like a breath of fresh air for real estate!
This year promises to be better than 2014 because the five elements present in the feng shui destiny chart incorporate an optimism that will, according to the experts, continue to drive up the economy and the stock market. A more stable global economic atmosphere is expected, with less dramatic fluctuations.
Like 2014, this year’s property outlook is nothing to write home about, unless the government chooses to tweak some of the cooling measures. Softer and more realistic prices this year may mean more properties sold; but unless the deal is exceptionally appealing – particularly in the luxury sector – investors will probably wait a while longer, expecting further price drops.
Opportunities may present themselves, however, in the shape of relaunches offering attractive incentives, increasing mortgagee sales from multiple property owners under pressure from possible interest rate hikes and a slower rental market, the luxury segment, prime properties in good locations and especially for those buying for their own occupation.
