High tea with a touch of heritage

17th August 2021 by Anthia Chng 2 Min Read

Love a good afternoon tea? We do too! That’s why we’re super excited about this upcoming high tea at Sofitel Singapore City Centre, running from 10 August to 30 November. Presented in an artist-designed box, the elegant afternoon tea features local-inspired bites like chilli crab mayonnaise sandwich and freshly baked pandan scones. It’s definitely one local high tea in Singapore you won’t want to miss!

A special high tea at Sofitel Singapore City Centre

Available from 10 August to 30 November 2021, “An Artful High Tea” is a collaboration between Sofitel Singapore City Centre and The Art Faculty (TAF). The exquisite afternoon tea experience takes place at the hotel’s stylish bar 1864, where afternoon tea-goers are presented with a limited-edition two-tiered box. This one-of-a-kind box features an artwork Selena Seow, a gifted artist from The Art Faculty, a social enterprise by Autism Resource Centre (Singapore).

The presentation

The stunning gold-hued afternoon tea box features an illustration by Selena titled “Looking Through”. The talented 25-year-old artist, who is on the autism spectrum, has taken references from the heritage shophouses lining Tanjong Pagar and Neil Road – a stone’s throw from Sofitel Singapore City Centre. She used colour pencils to create the intricate piece, and the result is a vibrant image that evokes a sense of nostalgia.

The artwork shines the spotlight on the shophouses, which are treasured masterpieces of Singapore’s culturally diverse past. A bamboo frame surrounds the shophouses to highlight the city’s architectural beginnings; bamboo was a main building block used in construction work in the past. The stunning visual gives viewers a glimpse of history, while showcasing the artist’s keen attention to detail.

Bite-sized delights

Open the box and you’ll find a dreamy medley of bite-sized treats specially curated to pay homage to Singapore’s culinary heritage. Start off with the savoury selection; highlights include a sambal salmon roll with caviar and fresh herbs – smoked salmon mixed with homemade sambal chilli paste, rolled neatly into a crepe wrap. For sweets, don’t miss out on Sofitel’s Portuguese egg tart, baked to caramelised goodness. Scone lovers will enjoy the aromatic pandan scones made with coconut flakes, gula melaka and fresh pandan leaves. Meanwhile, fans of durian will love the decadent durian choux pastry with vanilla; it features a fluffy choux filled with durian puree, coconut cream and gula melaka.
