If you’re looking for something awesomely unique to do with kids this Halloween, hop over to Resorts World Sentosa and visit the S.E.A. Aquarium. Home to more than 100,000 animals of over 800 species, the marine realm is going all out for Halloween with SEAA Wonders: Spooky Seas. The celebration runs from 1 October to 16 November and is jammed packed with scary activities, themed games, ghostly sleepovers, wizardry classes, trick or treats and more.
The Aquarium will be decked out in Halloween-themed décor, from divers in skeletal suits to pumpkins under the sea (plus ghoulish marine characters will be wandering around for those all-important selfies!). This year’s Halloween celebrations will focus on learning more about seemingly scary but often misunderstood marine animals, with two special video screenings (The Giant Squid and Spooky Seas) and aquarist sharing sessions about venomous animals, camouflage (we like to think of this as ‘fancy dress’) and defense against predators.
This theme is all in honour of its latest marine resident – the Largetooth Sawfish. The sawfish has just arrived and resides at S.E.A. Aquarium’s Open Ocean habitat. Welcome to Singers, Mr (or Mrs?) Sawfish.
The biggest highlights when it comes to SEAA Wonders: Spooky Seas? A new Spooky Seas Adventure Trail for all, plus an exclusive Halloween-themed Ocean Dreams family sleepover. More on those below…
The Spooky Seas Adventure Trail
Every child visiting will receive a special Spooky Seas Adventure Trail activity sheet. Through 12 activity stations across the aquarium, the trail will take children around the Aquarium, introducing them to seemingly scary animals allowing them to learn about extraordinary species.
Dates: From 1 October to 16 November 2014
Plus! A special edition of the Adventure Trail will be introduced on weekends, with a fun trick or treat element. Children will get the chance to make their own pumpkin bags at the Shipwreck Habitat and collect treats along the trail. This is when visitors can meet and greet Halloween marine characters (fancy dress in fancy dress?), including the Mermaid Witch, Sea Jelly Spirit, Sea Horse Dracula and more.
Dates (for Trick or Treat edition): 4-6, 11-12, 18-19, 25-26, 31 October 2014
Ocean Dreams: Spooky Seas Edition
S.E.A. Aquarium’s popular Ocean Dreams sleepover programme will have a Halloween twist this October. The S.E.A.A Wizardry Convention will come alive in this specially-themed event, as participants explore the depth of the oceans to collect ingredients for their magic potions. The exclusive spell-binding journey will include dark ocean legends and facts about deep-sea creatures through themed games. Kids will leave as Master Wizards or Witches, equipped with the knowledge to save our oceans from harm – how cool is that? Suitable for families with kids from 6 years old onwards – wizarding attire strongly recommended!
Afterwards, little ones will drift into slumber as they gaze at shimmering schools of fish in the spectacular Open Ocean Habitat, home to majestic manta rays, goliath groupers and leopard sharks.
Dates: 18 and 31 October 2014. Time: 5pm – 11am (following day). Price: $193 (adult); $173 (child and adult); $688 (family package of two adults and two kids). For reservations, call +65 6577 7515, or email firstname.lastname@example.org at least two weeks in advance. See more here.
Just in case the above isn’t quite enough (er, did you not see the bit about wizardry?), there are also two themed competitions to get stuck into during your visit. Snap up two S.E.A. Aquarium passes and get the chance see MythBusters-Behind the Myths – in Los Angeles, USA (!). Plus, take part in the ‘Shoot and Share’ Instagram competition for a chance to win Sea Trek and Ray Bay experiences. Simply follow @rwsentosa, snap scary looking marine life at S.E.A. Aquarium and post it with the tag #seaaquarium.
