Is your hair thinning? Whether it’s caused by ageing, lifestyle or genetics, hair loss can be distressing. We sent our editor-in-chief REBECCA BISSET to Hairdreams Singapore to test drive the salon’s Laserbeamer Nano system, a hair extensions program that seamlessly integrates 100 percent real human hair to the natural thinning hair.
When your hair is fine and there’s not much volume, there are two ways to remedy it: work on the scalp to get the hair to thicken up, or get extensions (or a wig). Having had successful scalp treatments years ago and knowing that they do help with stimulating growth, I was really pleased to hear that Hairdreams does both scalp treatments and extensions. Not only could I get my extensions done for more volume, I could also get my scalp scanned and exfoliated.
It’s very difficult for the hair to grow if the roots aren’t given room to grow, and using lots of leave-in products to fight the frizz builds up a film over the scalp that inhibits proper growth over time. Hence, when paired with the salon’s Stop & Grow treatment – which includes a specially formulated lotion proven to add 14,000 strands over three months of regular use – Hairdreams gradually and naturally protects and energises your scalp and hair.
For the extensions, I was a bit nervous about getting the right fit for my salt-and-pepper hair that’s also fine and curly, as the extensions are all made from real healthy hair, with no colouring or chemicals. Thankfully, there were options for wavy hair, in the colour that I wanted my hair to be. My stylist Yvonne was a wonder with colour; in way less time than a regular hairdresser would take, she had highlighted my hair to the perfect match of the extensions. She was also really quick at assessing the colour, type and placement of the extensions I would need. We couldn’t place the extensions near the top where they would be visible, so the best option was to attach them at the back where it was flat and needed a lift. The whole process was really quick and took only about 20 minutes.
While the hair extensions are a different texture to mine (they are slightly thicker and not as curly), I still manage to blend them in. They make a bun or ponytail look much fuller and healthier, plus my hair looks great when left natural or blow dried. Yvonne gave me a cool hairdo with a little twist, which really showed off the extra texture too. It’s a bit uncomfortable lying down on them for the first couple of days, as Yvonne had said, but they softened after a while. I thought the team really understood hair comprehensively from the scalp up, and I’m pretty optimistic that I can get my hair to look how I want it to look on a natural, everday basis.
