World famous chef Gordon Ramsay is in Singapore and all set to take on our top three hawker experts in the ultimate cook off.
The Michelin star cook will go up against the local legends in the SingTel Hawker Heroes Cook-Off – after three hawker chefs were selected by the public. The brave cooks who will be having a food fight (not literally, although we’d probably prefer that) with Gordon are Ang Kiam Meng from Jumbo Seafood, Foo Kui Lian from Tian Tian Chicken Rice and Ryan Koh from 328 Katong Laksa.
The event is taking place at Newton Food Centre on Sunday 7 July from 6.30pm – 9pm. It’s free entry, plus free food for 1000 people.
Ramsay, made famous through his award winning restaurants across the world and many TV series including Hells Kitchen and Master Chef, is already feeling pretty confident (despite admitting he knows little about our local food).
He said: “The people of Singapore want to put their favorite hawker food to a Michelin star test. Now many of the think that hawker food is deserving of more recognition. Frankly, I’m not an expert on Singapore food – I’m not sure if it’s as good as Singaporeans actually say it is!
“Trust me, I’ve got to see this for myself, and see what they have to offer. One thing I’m certain of is that people will like my version better! I truly accept your challenge. Game on!”
Typically modest, eh Gordon? This content will once and for all settle the ongoing debate over whether Singaporean hawkers are as talented as Michelin-starred chefs.
