Are you looking for an international school with a European outlook, an established history of success and a gorgeously green setting? It may sound too good to be true, but the soon-to-open new GESS campus at Dairy Farm easily ticks those boxes and more.
With the launch pegged for August 2018, the brand new, purpose-built campus will be up and running for the new school year. With facilities for Kindergarten through to Grade 12, students from the two existing campuses will finally come together in one single location. Here’s what you need to know.
Where is it?
The school sits on the doorstep of Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, just by Hillview MRT (Downtown Line) – now, you don’t get much greener than that! As well as enjoying gorgeous views, students will have plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and see classroom lessons come alive in the natural environment.
It’s not just the surroundings that are green either. The entire campus is eco-friendly and gets the “Green Mark Gold Plus” stamp of approval from the Singapore BCA (Building and Construction Authority).
What’s on offer?
With students of over 50 nationalities, GESS has a pretty diverse make-up. To cater to the unique abilities of each child, they have invested in some cool-sounding facilities.
Does your child have a flair for the creative? Then they’ll love breathing life into their ideas at the Maker Space or Design and Technology Center, or cooking up a storm in the Cooking Lab.
More the sporty-type? Young athletes can take their training to the next level in GESS’s sports complex with its fully equipped gym, sports halls and Olympic-sized swimming pool.
For those inclined towards the performing arts there is the Vocal and Instrumental Programme Center, which includes a recording studio, and a spacious 400-seater auditorium.
In line with GESS’s emphasis on languages – German is offered from Kindergarten to Grade 12, Danish and Dutch from Grade 1 to 12, plus there are Italian, French, Spanish and Mandarin options also available – it’s no wonder they’ve also set aside a dedicated space for languages. Classrooms for each language are grouped together with each cluster decorated in a way that immerses students in the language learning experience.
Age-specific learning pods are another interesting feature. Designed to foster collaborative learning and a sense of community for students within the same grade range (e.g., primary school, secondary school, high school), these also provide a space for students to get together, exchange ideas and hold grade level presentations.
