Anaita Thakkar has a secret gem!

7th October 2019 by Anthia Chng 2 Min Read

We like the sound of quality, handmade accessories that are pocket friendly, and made to suit any age group. Local label Lustre Jewellery specialises in affordable yet luxurious gemstone jewellery, and offers the addition of a stylish and “secret” boutique studio. We met up with founder and designer ANAITA THAKKAR to find out more.

Anaita Thankkar

What’s new

Lustre opened its gorgeous bijoux-box of a studio earlier this year. Since all appointments are personally hosted by Anaita, the studio opens strictly by booking only. Located in a lush, green hideaway, the space provides an intimate setting for a quiet, unhurried and luxe shopping experience. You can have a coffee (or a gin!) with the designer herself, while perusing the entire range, including items that may not be on the website yet.

If you’re in the know, Lustre is already becoming the go-to place for many to visit with their girlfriends and indulge in some retail therapy. For those leery of shopping online, it’s great to have a space where you can shop the pieces in person.

The inspiration

Anaita says that the whole idea of designing for a season, which lasts only a couple of months, isn’t what defines her. As someone who loathes fast fashion, she does not conform to the conventional spring-summer or autumn-winter seasonal schedule. “The design process is based on my own particular whimsy. The collections very often reflect an emotion, rather than anything else,” Anaita explains.

Having said that, geometrical shapes and nature are strong points of inspiration. The core of her business is gemstones – and the jewellery she designs always employs natural gemstones. Indeed, with the exception of simulated diamonds, she rarely uses synthetic stones in her pieces.

Ageless designs

Anaita doesn’t design with any particular age range in mind, as she believes that jewellery is about style and confidence, instead of how old a person is. “I admire women who don’t feel the need to fit in or conform; they’re the ones who push the boundaries of style – and they’re the women I design for.”

New and Notable

Four collections are launched each year in limited quantities, so you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled on the site for any updates. Launching this month is the Bamboo collection. Book an appointment to view Lustre’s entire range!
