Fitness after forty at FitNut Loft!

23rd June 2022 by Amy Greenburg 2 Min Read

What started out as a private workout space for one person is now a thriving fitness community for women over 40 years of age, with a second studio location set to open in July. Here’s how it started and what you can expect from the new FitNut Loft fitness studio in Singapore based in River Valley.

It all began when ALY KHAIRUDDIN, left weakened and out of shape after chemotherapy treatment, wanted to get her strength back. Far too self-conscious to work out in a gym setting, Aly rented a private studio space in Bukit Timah where she could exercise on her own – using a winning combination of Pilates, circuit workouts and weight training to get her health back on track. Inspired by her own transformation, she realised that she wanted to help other women, like her, do the same.

So, she opened up her “safe space” to launch FitNut Loft. This fitness studio is for women in their 40s and above who want to get healthier in a non-judgmental setting.

Focused on helping women get “better” not “younger”, the studio is all about embracing the ageing process rather than fighting it. This is a concept that has certainly resonated with a whole lot of women here in Singapore. So much, in fact, that the dedicated community of FitNutters has continued to grow steadily, even during the pandemic; in just five years, the boutique fitness studio has trained over 300 women.

This, of course, suggests just how necessary the niche was for our local fitness scene. And, now, with the launch of FitNut Loft’s second studio this month, the proof is in the pudding.

FitNut Loft River Valley

Situated in a heritage shophouse on Mohamed Sultan Road, the new FitNut Loft studio in River Valley shares the same approach as its original sister space, says Aly.

“Our vision is to help women get stronger and healthier as they age so that they can live beautiful, long lives for decades to come; so they can be independent and not have to rely on anyone to do things for them; and, so they can be happier and more confident with their lives and bodies.”

The 2,200-square-foot space features a mezzanine floor for private training; there’s also an outdoor rooftop terrace where Aly plans to host wine and cheese nights for members. In addition to personal training, you can expect the new studio to offer all of the popular group classes that FitNutters have come to know and love. These include Pilates Reformer, Functional Strength Training, and Strong and Lean, which is a combination of HIIT, weight training and Pilates.

In addition to being a certified personal trainer and STOTT-Pilates instructor, Aly is a certified nutrition coach. So, along with strength and Pilates-based workouts, you can expect nutrition coaching to round out the holistic experience.

And, as the only A12 coach in Singapore, Aly is offering the popular 12-week Amazing 12 (A12) body transformation programme; this is well known for delivering unprecedented body transformations in shockingly short periods of time.
