Family holidays to suit all ages and interests

Updated on 9th April 2018 by Expat Living |

Whether you’ve got young kids, teens or relatives visiting from overseas, there are fab breaks available for every brood. Here, with the help of the Lightfoot Travel team, we look at four dream destinations for family holidays, with some family-friendly accommodation to boot.

Multi-gen families

For a collective family adventure, head to Kenya. Spend your days on game drives, nature walks, horseback rides or mountain biking across the plains. Spot elephants, leopards, hyenas and the endangered Grevy’s zebra. Go rock climbing or jogging on one of the spectacular trails, or just enjoy the scenery. Do all of this at The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille, a stunning property boasting only four guesthouses so the place feels totally exclusive.

Lightfoot Travel says: “These villas especially cater for multi-generational families as they come with a butler, valet, guide, safari vehicle, guard and personal chef, so everybody is looked after.

Families with teens

If your teens think there’s nothing to do in the Maldives, they clearly haven’t been to One&Only Reethi Rah. This stylish all-villa resort is the ultimate tropical experience, and has an awesome amount of activities on tap. Everything from yoga to cooking to water-skiing classes are available, and private island picnics, dolphin-watching and sunset cruises can all be arranged. There are even “teen counsellors” who set up get-togethers that are cool rather than cringey. Did we mention the eight dining spots and the 12 beaches? Start packing now…

Lightfoot Travel says: “ Singapore’s proximity to the Maldives, the low season summer rates, and the entertainment options for all the family make this an ideal choice.”

Families with young kids

Treat your family to fresh air, freedom and the finer things in life with a trip to Tuscany. Head to the rolling hills where children can roam amongst herb-freckled meadows, and parents can explore the medieval villages and vineyards. Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco offers amazing private villas for families and there’s plenty to keep everyone occupied such as hiking, biking and horse-riding. Bonus points go to the hotel’s kids’ club, Rose Buds, where your little ones can join cookery workshops, fun fitness classes and treasure hunts.

Lightfoot Travel says: “Book your trip through us and enjoy exclusive benefits such as daily breakfast and an upgrade upon arrival.”

Family visitors

If your relatives are visiting Singapore and they’ve seen all the local hotspots, Bali is a brilliant place to head to together. World-class surf beaches and a fascinating culture make it a perpetually perfect holiday destination, and the opening of COMO Uma Canggu makes it even more desirable. The 14th addition to the hotel group offers rooms that are stylish and chic with floor to-ceiling windows to soak up the ocean views. The Beach Club serves nutritious cuisine and the Shambhala Retreat delivers unbeatable treatments and therapies. It’s also an excellent spot for surfing and golf.

Lightfoot Travel says: “Bali is ideal for groups craving peace, relaxation and perfect temperatures. The frequent and fast affordable flights also make this a hassle-free option.”

How cute! Love this Easter twist on devilled eggs 🐣Thanks @expat_kitchen! Instructions below ✨ Full recipe on our site
.
.
.
.Instructions:1. Peel hard-boiled eggs. With a sharp knife, slice off a very thin layer from the base of the egg so it can stand. Cut a generous top off the egg, and set top aside. Using a small melon baller, scoop out the yolk carefully (be careful not to break the white part!).
2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 10 cooked yolks and mash well with a fork. Add mayonnaise, Dijon, garlic powder and salt. Mash everything together until smooth. Transfer mixture to Ziploc or pastry bag and pipe generously into egg bases. Place top 1/3 back over the base and press down slightly to adhere.
3. For the eyes, poke through an olive with a plastic straw several times, then gently squeeze down the straw, and the little circles of olives will pop right out. For the beaks, thinly slice a few rings of carrot and cut each ring into sixths. Insert two olive spots for the eyes and two carrots wedges for the beak. Set chicks on a platter and garnish with noodles, or parsley or dill to give them that “free range” feel.
