Need a day to yourself to recharge?

31st August 2018 by Anthia Chng 3 Min Read

We get it: whether you’re a frequent traveller, a busy executive or a stay-at-home mum, there are days where you just need a break from everything and everyone. One of our favourite ways to unwind? A sweat sesh at the gym, a visit to the sauna, and a relaxing massage – yes, in that order!

Located in the luxurious Fairmont Singapore, Willow Stream Spa spans a whopping 50,000 square feet, and boasts 23 treatment rooms. There’s also a fully equipped fitness centre that includes a cardio theatre, a strength training area and fitness studio furbished with a highly interactive fitness programme (SMARTFit training), along with VIP suites, sauna and steam rooms, two free-form swimming pools and six tennis courts.

Fit and fab

Besides having full access to the facilities, members can enjoy special rates on personal training and tennis classes, on top of complimentary group exercise classes like yoga. Whatever fitness goals you have, the personal trainers will cater sessions to your fitness level, ability and age, while helping you achieve your target. Or, if you prefer swimming, there are the two beautiful outdoor pools for you to take advantage of on a sunny afternoon.

Relax and unwind

For a proper warm-down after an intense workout, visit the sauna, which is set between 80 to 90 degrees Celsius. The dry heat will soothe your muscles, relief existing tensions and minimise joint pain, so it’s extremely beneficial for those with arthritis, migraines and headaches. There’s also a steam room, which is maintained at 42 degrees. Especially beneficial for those suffering from asthma and bronchitis, the humid heat helps to open up the breathing passages, thus alleviating congestion. A 10-to-15-minute session is recommended before or after a massage to increase blood circulation.

Heavenly treatments

From hour-long full-body massages to a half-day detoxifying spa package ($598), you’ll find a wide selection of signature treatments here to suit your wants and needs. Indulge in the Youthful Glow Anti-Ageing facial ($279, 90 minutes), which uses Australian skincare brand Gaylia Kristensen’s highly advanced anti-ageing youth “actives” to tone and lift the skin, reduce fine lines and expression lines, while leaving a luminous youthful glow. Another popular choice is the Fairmont Singapore Signature Massage ($279, 90 minutes), designed to relax fatigue muscles using restorative massage techniques and a warm herbal compress infused with local herbs and spices.

Melinda heads to a wet market! (Full video on IGTV Or YouTube) Did you know: The term “wet markets” came into common usage in the early 1970s when the Singapore government used the term to distinguish these markets from air-conditioned “supermarkets” that had become popular with the opening of Fitzpatrick’s supermarket in Orchard Road in 1958.
