Eye creams in Singapore: Tried and tested

In need of some intensive skincare for your peepers? In our quest for prettier peepers, this month we’ve been religiously applying the latest eye creams over a 30-day period. Read on for the results.

FIRST AID BEAUTY (F.A.B) AGE DELAY 5-IN-1 EYE CREAM ($58)

What you liked:
The tube was smaller than I expected, but you need just a tiny amount to cover the eye area. It stung just a little for the first application (I’ve got sensitive skin) but not thereafter. It’s very easy to apply – neither oily nor watery – and it just melts right into the skin. I now see fewer fine lines around my eyes, and I think the skin looks brighter. I’ve also started using the rollerball, which is included; it also tingles a little, but the skin around the eye feels much fresher afterwards.

Verdict: I’ll continue to buy this. I’ve seen more results from this than many others I’ve tried in the past (even far more expensive ones that have had rave reviews).

NUXE NIRVANESQUE EYE CONTOUR ($58)

What you liked:
I was struck first by the cream’s delicious floral scent, and then by its ease of application. I use the term “cream” loosely, as it’s more like a gel – it sinks in quickly and really moisturises the skin around the eye area. After just a few days, I could see the dark circles lightening and the skin around my eyes looked visibly brighter.

Verdict: A great moisturising eye gel that does lighten dark circles, though I haven’t seen any evidence of wrinkle reduction just yet.

THE BODY SHOP DROPS OF YOUTH EYE CREAM ($50)

What you liked:
I’ll admit that this is one the best eye creams I’ve used. I just love the applicator that allows you to roll and massage your under-eye area gently. I tend to get a few white milia spots when using eye creams, but that didn’t happen this time round. It’s light and easily absorbed into the skin, leaving no oily or sticky feeling whatsoever.

Verdict: Though I wish it would’ve magically made my dark circles disappear – maybe it will have by the time I finish the bottle – the skin around my eyes does look healthier and plumper after application.

Jurlique Herbal Recovery Eye Serum, $85
Jurlique Herbal Recovery Eye Serum, $85

JURLIQUE HERBAL RECOVERY EYE SERUM ($85)

What you liked:
This cream smells great, and feels immediately refreshing when it touches the skin. I also like the fact that it uses an antioxidant-rich herbal formula.

Verdict: Whenever I applied it, this Jurlique serum helped reduce the puffiness around my eyes, which has been one of my main beauty concerns.

Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm, $92
Algenist Complete Eye Renewal Balm, $92

ALGENIST COMPLETE EYE RENEWAL BALM ($92)

What you liked: I liked the consistency of this product – I’d describe it as sort of mid-way between a gel and a cream. It’s lightweight and easily absorbed. I did feel a stinging sensation a couple of times after use – nothing painful, but more of an “uncomfortably fresh” feeling (perhaps I have a sensitive eye area!). It settled down quite quickly.

Verdict: My eye area definitely looked brighter, and I noticed that the fine lines around my eyes looked “filled in”. At the price, though, I’m not sure I’d buy it again.

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Eye, $113
SK-II Facial Treatment Essence Eye, $113

SK-II FACIAL TREATMENT ESSENCE EYE ($113)

What you liked:
The smooth, velvety texture of the cream was just the right consistency – not too light nor too thick – and it was absorbed quickly into my skin. Used in tandem with the Facial Treatment Essence, it provides a thorough and nourishing base for applying additional products. The cream is packed with quality ingredients including Pitera, the SK-II miracle, hailed for its ability to improve the skin’s natural rejuvenation process.

Verdict: While I didn’t notice drastic improvements in fine lines during the 30 days of using the product, I did think it lightened the dark shadows and my eyes appeared brighter. Just knowing about the brilliant skin of many Japanese women is enough to motivate me to carry on using SK-II products, and I hope to see future improvements.

Laneige Water Bank Eye Gel Cream, $49
Laneige Water Bank Eye Gel Cream, $49

LANEIGE WATER BANK EYE GEL CREAM ($49)

What you liked:
As someone who has been constantly experimenting with different eye creams since the age of 19, this number by Laneige is up there with the best of them. I use it as the final step in my nightly facial regime and wake up the next morning with soft, supple skin around my eyes. It also reduces morning puffiness. Gel-type eye creams are less likely to seep into your eyes and sting after application. If you suffer from post-sleep puffiness like me, I’d recommend chilling the product in the fridge for about ten minutes before application for an ultra-cooling treat.

Verdict: I can’t fault this product – I’ll definitely continue using it.
