An intrepid treasure hunt as you explore Singapore
Time Heist: Civic District combines elements of theatre, film, heritage and game play. It plays out in the Asian Civilisations Museum, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, National Gallery Singapore, The Arts House, and Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall.
Players will assume the identity of Time Agents of the Ministry of Time Heritage in 2055. They’ll be presented with a mission dossier by the Agency Director, Charles Wong (played by Hossan Leong). Players will explore Singapore’s Civic District and complete quests as a team to complete the mission.
The game is suitable for players of all ages. All that’s required is a 4G connection on a mobile phone and a camera that can scan QR codes. Equally important is a curious mind, a thirst for adventure and a love for walking. Teams have from 10am to 5pm to complete the mission.
Why explore Singapore’s Civic District?
The idea to turn the Civic District into an immersive outdoor game is by Sight Lines Entertainment. The team created The Curious Case of the Missing Peranakan Treasure, set in Raffles Hotel. They’re presenting Time Heist: Civic District in collaboration with Double Confirm Productions and the Civic District Alliance.
We ask DERRICK CHEW, Executive Producer, to share what players can expect as they undertake this treasure hunt game.
What’s the main aim of Time Heist?
In partnership with the Civic District Alliance, our main aim is to introduce the Civic District in a fun, new way. Through gamification, players of all ages can interact and see intimately what this area has to offer in a different light.
Another aim is to nurture new audiences. By offering exciting theatrical experiences with this outdoor immersive format, we aim to introduce elements of theatrical arts and Singapore in new, unique ways for audiences of all ages.
What can families and friends look forward to on this treasure hunt?
It’s made for all ages and players can play at their own pace, anytime from 10am to 5pm. As it’s able to cater to any group size, it’s also a great corporate team-building activity. Players can be as competitive as they want. Or stop for breaks or to visit the various museums before continuing their game.
There’s an engaging storyline with plot twists and turns. Players are brought into the main action, playing as time agents to stop the time heist. They’ll explore Singapore national monuments in the Civic District. As they solve games and puzzles in an interactive manner, they’ll learn about history and heritage of the monuments.
There are also many Instagram-worthy spots along the way that make for a great photo. This could help them win the grand prize!
If someone is stuck on a question, what can they do?
Help is always on hand, literally. There’s a help link on every puzzle page that players can easily access for guidance.
Any tips for someone who’s never done something like this before?
Check the weather forecast ahead of time. If rain is predicted, bring an umbrella or recharge at one of the many lifestyle spots. Come in comfortable clothing.
Play as a group and put your heads together. The puzzles can be done alone but you’ll have an advantage when more minds come together. If you’re coming in a huge group, turn it into a fun competition. Split into teams and see who the best Time Agents are.
You have 24 hours to play the game before your ticket expires, so make it a day out at the Civic District. Stop for lunch, visit a gallery and take a coffee break before continuing the game.
Lastly, have fun and enjoy the game!
Why was the Civic District chosen over other locations?
It’s the modern birthplace of Singapore. It’s the art mecca of the nation with its numerous arts and culture institutions. Some of the best international and regional exhibitions are displayed here.
The location is filled with history and hidden stories. Although many locals and expats might be familiar with that, they have yet to truly uncover all that it has to offer.
Additionally, the F&B and lifestyle offerings and amenities make the Civic District an ideal location for an immersive outdoor escape game.
Tips for Time Heist treasure hunters
Before you set off, here are some words of advice and encouragement from Agency Director, Charles Wong.
“Agents, you’ve been carefully selected through a rigorous process. Each of you has special skill sets needed for the mission.
However, to succeed as a Time Heritage Agent, you need that ‘X’-factor skill. If you possess it, you’ll most definitely complete your mission. What is the ‘X’-factor skill, you ask? You’ll need to click on the Application Form to find out.
When you’re out there, be alert, stay under the radar and come back alive. Be a smoothie and blend well with the general public in 2022. If you stick out, the Scavengers will hunt you down and destroy you, and us here in 2055. No pressure!”
