ARTSY EXPERIENCES
The O.P.E.N. (Open, Participate, Enrich, Negotiate) – the annual pre-festival of the Singapore International Festival of Arts (SIFA) – returns on 28 June. The event features a selection of talks, film screenings, exhibitions and other visual arts performances touching on this year’s SIFA theme, “Enchantment”, in a more casual and intimate setting than the main festival itself. Some highlights include Open Kitchens (9, 11, 20 to 23, and 27 to 30 July) in which audiences cook with 21 real-life home cooks while simultaneously hearing the hosts’ stories, and Spectres by Zai Tang (5 to 8 July), an immersive, audio-visual installation derived from field recordings from Singapore’s natural habitats. The filmmaking process of Singaporean short film Lizard On The Wall is another highlight, where audiences become part of the cast as wedding guests in the film (20 June to 2 July). Unlike previous years, there will be no time gap between the pre-festival and SIFA itself; rather, The O.P.E.N. 2017 will be immediately followed by SIFA programmes running from 5 August to 9 September.
