The Sixteen: An Immortal Legacy
UK-based ensemble The Sixteen will be in town for their concert An Immortal Legacy. Conducted by Founder Harry Christophers, the choir is recognised for its hallmarks of tonal richness, expressive intensity and compelling artistry. The Sixteen’s touring credits include performances at the Cité de la musique in Paris, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw and Vienna’s Musikverein. Their substantial discography has attracted many prestigious international prizes, including a Gramophone Award for Early Music and a Classical Brit Award for Renaissance. In 2009, they were also named as Classic FM Gramophone Artist of the Year.
An Immortal Legacy will feature secular works within The Sixteen’s customary sacred output and depicts how contemporary composers revel in the glories of the 16th century to the present. This concert’s repertoire also features Thomas Tallis, Thomas Morley, William Byrd, John Sheppard, Orlando Gibbons, Benjamin Britten, Sir Michael Tippett and James MacMillan.
