Do you remember Michael Fay? He was the American teenager who was sentenced to six strokes of the cane in Singapore in 1994 for theft of road signs and vandalising 18 cars over a ten-day period.

30 years on, the laws here remain as strict as ever, so it’s important for parents to know what their teens are doing and what repercussions there could be if they do something wrong.

Sarah-Mae Thomas is the Managing Director of Sarah-Mae Thomas LLC; she covers a broad spectrum of legal matters in her practice, specialising in particular in family law, civil litigation and juvenile matters.
