Tales from the Nusantara: The Amazing Sarong & Timun Emas
24 July - 7 August
Two tales are better than one, right!?
Kids can enjoy these two storytelling and craft sessions – organised by the Malay Heritage Centre – from the comfort of home, across two different Saturdays.
First, join Laila on 24 July and catch the mystical story of Timun Emas (The Golden Cucumber) about a brave girl who was born from a magical cucumber. Get to know about her valiant efforts in escaping and defeating the Raksasa (The Giant/Ogre). Then, seize the chance to grow a magical cucumber with your very own Cucumber Starter Kit. Participants will be guided through the step-by-step process of growing a cucumber, its benefits and more!
Then, embark on an extraordinary journey on 7 August in the story of ‘The Amazing Sarong’. Discover how batik art can bring unexpected fun and new friendships. This storytelling session will be brought to you live by Quek Hong Shin, the original author and illustrator of the picture book of the same name. He will show you how an ordinary sarong can transform in unexpected ways, in an adventure not to be forgotten.
