RIPPLE ROOT: Raffles, Pineapples & The Swamp
8 August @ 6:30 pm - 31 August @ 9:30 pm
RIPPLE ROOT is the artist moniker of Liquan Liew and Estella Ng. They make collaborative, carefree works reflecting themes of nature and wildlife. There is an element of simple naiveté to the pieces, calling forth poetry in the raw, pure and irreverent.
The two develop artworks physically next to each other, taking turns to add to a piece like a game of ‘tag’ — consistently swapping works after each individual has added his/her interpretation. The exhibition reminisces island plantations and untainted simpler times, along with subsequent industrial developments and the rise to modernity. Viewers will be transported from ‘Swamp to Civillisation’ through these chronological pieces.
This event will feature Ripple Root’s latest collection of art pieces. They were inspired by the Singapore bicentennial and Batik patterns of Club 21, Issey Miyake and Dries Van Noten AW19 collections. Celebrate a bit of history with fresh, painterly vision. Ripple Root has showcased in London, South Korea, Melbourne and Sydney.
