24 April - 3 May
Seen by over eight million people worldwide, War Horse is the most successful play in National Theatre’s history. It has won 25 awards, including the Tony Award for Best Play on Broadway.
Based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, the powerfully moving and imaginative drama is filled with stirring music and songs. You’ll enjoy life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company that bring the breathing, galloping and charging horses to life on stage.
The story tells of Joey, young Albert’s beloved horse, that is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France during World War One. Joey gets caught up in enemy fire and ends up finding himself alone in no man’s land. Albert who remained on his parents’ farm in Devon does not forget Joey. Although he is not old enough to enlist in the army, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse.
