FishX sustainable fishing workshop
1 December, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 31 December, 2021 @ 11:30 am
Learn how to fish while contributing to marine conservation science!
During the trip, guides from Marine Stewards will teach you beginner-friendly fishing techniques using sustainable fishing tackle. As you reel in your catches, the guides will also go through various fish care tips following the CPR framework — Catch, Photo and Release.
The fish you catch will be documented and identified for the NParks BIOME database, which maps biodiversity throughout Singapore. Selected specimens will even be preserved for DNA processing at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.
The workshop is supported by NParks’ Friends of East Coast Park network, who has partnered Marine Stewards in the design and build of signboards at Bedok Jetty that list out common fish caught and sustainable fishing guidelines.
No prior experience required, beginners are welcome. All fishing equipment will be provided, so just come with a passion to learn!
