We review a non-invasive alternative to fillers

9th November 2018 by Anthia Chng 4 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/eucerin-hyaluron-filler-elasticity-reviews-anti-aging-skincare/

The development of injectable facial fillers has come a long way since chemical agents, paraffin and Vaseline were first used. An effective and immediate solution to ageing woes like wrinkles and loose skin, fillers are commonly made with hyaluronic acid, an ingredient responsible for plump and hydrated skin. However, not everyone is keen on the invasive nature of the procedure and possible downtime involved. Here we discover Eucerin’s Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity skincare range, which promises to firm up five targeted facial areas without the need for injections.

eucerin singapore hyaluron filler elasticity anti aging skincare serum face cream
This skincare line from Eucerin targets five key areas

How it works

Boasting over 100 years of history, German-led brand Eucerin is known for its dermatological skincare that’s suitable for all skin types, including sensitive. Formulated with high and low molecular hyaluronic acid to plump up deep wrinkles while improving elasticity, the range consists of three non-comedogenic products: a day cream ($85), night cream ($85) and facial oil ($99.90). Arctiin, an active ingredient proven to accelerate collagen renewal in skin cells, works alongside Silymarin, a powerful antioxidant that protects collagen and elastin from degrading and improves skin circulation at a cellular level.

Formulated for dry and mature skin (40 years old and above), this range of products promise to strengthen the skin structure, giving the overall complexion a more radiant and healthy look. According to a study, after four weeks of regular use, customers have seen an increase of over 100 percent in their skin elasticity and firmness. With eight weeks of continuous usage, the skin has also appeared firmer in five target areas: the forehead, eyes, cheekbone, jawline and neckline. Overall, lines and wrinkles have reduced, while skin moisture, elasticity and firmness have significantly improved.

Our reviews

Editors Amy Greenburg and Amy Brook-Partridge test drive the range for four weeks and report back.

eucerin anti aging hyaluronic filler day cream anti aging
The day cream works as an everyday moisturiser

“As I develop more wrinkles with age, particularly crow’s feet, I’m always on the hunt for anti-ageing creams, as well as daytime sunscreens that aren’t too heavy. For me, it’s a lot to layer SPF and makeup in this climate, so adding on an extra anti-aging layer is way too much. Hence, when I found out that Eucerin’s Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity Day Cream works as a sunscreen (SPF 15), daily moisturiser and anti-ageing cream, I was keen to give it a go. Another selling point for me was the fact that the cream doesn’t contain the widely used preservative methylisothiazolinone, which I’m very allergic to.

eucerin anti aging hyaluronic filler night cream anti aging
The night cream strengthens the skin structure by regenerating and intensively nourishing the skin overnight

The day cream seems thick in the jar, but once you put it on, it’s super lightweight and absorbs very easily into my dry to normal skin. It doesn’t have a greasy feel at all, allowing for my makeup to go nicely; in fact, it seems that my foundation goes on even better when applied over the day cream, particularly where my crow’s feet are. Once I knew I liked the day cream, I decided to give the Hyaluron-Filler + Elasticity Night Cream and Elasticity + Filler Facial Oil a go. Both have the same subtle scent and great texture; the night cream is the perfect thickness for bedtime application while the facial oil is super thin with a lovely satin finish. I applied the oil before the day and night creams, and loved the way it absorbed into my skin without getting oily.

While I don’t actually look younger after using the anti-ageing range (it’s not a miracle worker!), I definitely think that my wrinkles didn’t get any deeper, which is great. The products also didn’t make me break out, which would have obviously been a deal breaker. I feel that the SPF in the day cream really provided protection against the sun – no new sunspots here! – while all three products gave my face a smoother and firmer texture overall.” – Amy Greenburg

eucerin anti aging hyaluronic filler facial oil anti aging
Formulated with argan oil, lady’s thistle oil and Vitamin E

“I’m lucky in that I’ve never suffered from pimples, even as an adolescent, but as the years march on I’m seeing more and more lines around my eyes and forehead. Our hot and humid climate also makes my face feel dirty pretty much all of the time, which is why I like investing in face creams that not only deliver what they promise, but that also force me to make the effort and follow a skincare routine.

Eucerin’s new anti-aging range consists of three core products, a facial oil ($99.90), a night cream and a day cream ($85 each). The Hyaluron-Filler and Elasticity range promises to strengthen the skin’s structure by improving skin elasticity and plumping up deep wrinkles. Although the day and night cream look very similar in their packaging, the night cream is dark on the outside, while day cream light, making it easier to pick out when you’re fumbling for the right one in the bathroom. To me, there’s no particular scent to the creams, but the oil has a slightly floral, pleasant aroma. I’ve been using the facial oil before the night and day creams, and my skin has started to feel markedly softer and smoother. The creams absorb really quickly, and there’s no greasy feel to my face, even when I’ve used the oil. Focusing on washing my face properly, then applying the creams has also helped my face feel fresher and more cleansed.” – Amy Brook-Partridge

Guys: did you know that your skin is structurally different from that of ladies? For most men, androgen (testosterone) stimulation results in skin that’s thicker and tougher than women’s skin. This also means you might need something more than just your wife’s, mum’s or sister’s moisturiser or face wash!

Lumin was founded on this concept; this California-based online store offers simple yet effective skincare for men, tailored to different skin types and concerns. So, whether you’re looking for a good face cleanser or a moisturiser for men, this is one brand to check out.

To differentiate Lumin from other men’s skincare brands, founders Richard Hong and Darwish Gani flew to South Korea to work on formulas that benefit the thicker and more stubborn skin constructs of men. Most of the ingredients used are powerful plant-based extracts like ginger root, rosemary, coffee and shea butter. The paraben-free and cruelty-free brand also makes a point of avoiding unnecessary nasties commonly associated with popular off-the-shelf products.

If it’s your first time shopping for men’s skincare, you’ll be glad to know that the Lumin experience is simple and fuss-free. Just fill out a brief questionnaire and you’ll get a personalised skincare regime that’s suited to your skin type and lifestyle. You can choose to go with a one-time purchase or have your products delivered on a subscription basis. Alternatively, shop from the curated range of skincare sets catered to different budgets and preferences.

The rain and cold winds getting you down? A warm beverage and maybe a good book to snuggle up to might just chase the blues away!

If hot chocolate is too mainstream for you, could we offer up this red velvet alternative? @littlefarms have a wide selection of oat milks, almond milks and soy milk options.

Since it's #Veganuary, we recommend using dairy free milks to recreate this recipe....

2 cups non-dairy milk of choice
4 medjool dates (pitted)
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1/2 teaspoon beet powder

Add the milk and dates into a saucepan.
Heat, over medium, until it reaches a simmer. Add the warm milk with the dates and the remaining ingredients into a high speed blender.
Blend until completely smooth and creamy. Serve and enjoy!
