We’ve all got some lumps and bumps on our body that just don’t seem to budge, even with the right diet and exercise. That’s when a little help in the aesthetics department comes in handy. Here, we review three non-invasive slimming treatments offered at French beauty clinic Estheclinic – read on for how they fared with the EL team!
#1 Intensive Body Perfection Programme
Lucky reviewer: Danielle Rossetti
Offered at Estheclinic, this programme is a combination of lipo-cavitation (ultrasound) to break down fat cells, and radiofrequency to tighten, firm and tone skin. I did the treatment on the upper hips area – that comfy bit for a baby to sit on, but which does not lend itself well to doing up trousers or wearing shorter tops.
Each session took around an hour. There is a slight electronic whine with the ultrasound treatment, which feels like electricity passing between your ears, but after the first session, I brought headphones and podcasts and it didn’t bother me again.
The radiofrequency that follows is warming and relaxing, rubbing smoothly all over the area. There is no pain at all with either procedure, although the first session definitely felt “lumpier” as the ultrasound machine was pushing over the skin. I had half a dozen small, coin-sized bruises around each area but they went down in a couple of days, and did not reappear for following sessions.
For an hour or so after the treatment, there is some numbness around the hips and buttocks, but it’s nothing major to affect movement. After three sessions in as many weeks, I noticed that there was room to move in some of my shorts that had been a little tight. Photos taken at the end of six sessions show smoother skin, less dimpling, and a definite change in the shape of the upper hip area. It’s still not a photo I would post on social media, but I’m going back to the wardrobe now to see which of my old pants may fit me again!
$320 to $390 per session. Estheclinic recommends at least six weekly sessions to see a difference.
Lucky reviewer: Jacqui Young
After many years of trying to shift stubborn fat from my tummy area, the thought of having some help along the way was very welcome; hence when fat-freezing was first mentioned to me, it was music to my ears. Although I was apprehensive at first (I’d heard stories about how painful it could be), I was up for the challenge of trying the new EstheCyro (cryolipolysis) at Estheclinic.
It’s a non-surgical, fat-freezing procedure with minimal downtime, allowing you to schedule your appointment and be out and about immediately afterwards. A large cooling gel pad is applied on the treatment area before a unique suction method is applied with a machine to draw up the fatty cells and kick start the freezing process.
The treatment is used to break down the stubborn pockets of fat we desperately try (and often fail) to get rid of even with a good diet plan and regular exercise. I must admit its feels rather weird when the fats are suctioned, but after a few minutes the area starts to get numb and you can rest for the remainder of the hour-long treatment. The treated areas are then given a strong massage to break up the fat cells and you can then be on your way.
Up to two areas of the body can be treated at any one time and the recommendation is normally for at least two sessions on the same area to see visible results, even though some may see changes after just one session. I booked my second appointment three weeks after, and the results are pretty incredible. My tummy area appears much firmer and the treatment seems to have worked in giving me the slimmer silhouette I’ve been dreaming of for many years. I’m definitely going back to try some of their other signature treatments!
Lucky reviewer: Rebecca Bisset
It’s taken me a while to write about the two fat-reducing treatments I reviewed at Estheclinic on Tras Street. There wasn’t an immediate difference with either of them, especially after the Body Perfection treatment. I had six sessions of this, which were about an hour each. They were very relaxing; it’s a combination of lipocavitation for reducing fat and radiofrequency for cellulite, and there’s no pain involved. I know I could have worked out instead of having a short nap, but this was way more relaxing and, I think, more effective in the end. It also helps tighten the skin when you do lose weight, and for body contouring it can be quite targeted.
I then waited to review the clinic’s brand new treatment, EstheCryo, which works by freezing the fat; I had two sessions of these on the bottom ‘overhang’. This wasn’t as uncomfortable as I expected, and again I didn’t see an instant result. I went off to England and ate quite a bit – as you do on holiday – but now a few months later I can noticeably feel there is less there, even though I haven’t lost weight on the scale. It doesn’t flop onto the bed when I lie on my side as it used to! (Now that’s a lovely image…)
The whole area is less lumpy too, and although I still have a roundish stomach, it’s smoother and the overhang has gone. I do work out and do yoga but I hadn’t had much shift through those modes so I’m very happy with this. Price-wise it’s not that cheap; if you take a package of six, it works out to about $400 each for the lipocavitation sessions. But if you’re paying for a personal trainer too, it can add up.
#4 Stretch Marks Removal
Lucky reviewer: Michaela Bisset
I know for many people stretch marks typically appear on their stomachs and thighs. However, mine are on my chest. My “boobs” – unfortunately for me – came late and then grew at such a rapid rate it caused stretch marks to form. They had faded a bit over the years, but they were still visible whenever I wore low tops or a swimsuit.
When I heard that there was a procedure that would help, I was very excited. The first thing you need to know is that this hour-long treatment is painless and effective. It starts with the application of the stretch marks serum, which is rolled onto the treated area for 10 minutes to stimulate the cells. This treatment uses thermo-controlled radiofrequency, which heats up the skin to encourage collagen growth. A “spikey roller” – called the Le DermaBooster XL – is rolled over the area. What happens next is a 30-minute LED light treatment, which works to lighten the colour of your marks and stimulate the area for regrowth and regeneration.
I’ve been amazed by the results even after the first couple of sessions (I had six in total). The customer service was excellent, too. The treatment definitely helped to remove the colour of the marks, and made the skin around it significantly firmer. There’s no downtime too, though I was advised to leave on the applied serum for at least the next couple of hours – so I just slept in it!
