Computers and kids: Coding courses for teenagers

11th October 2018 by Emily Finch 2 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/computers-and-kids-coding-courses-for-teenagers/

If your teenager has a penchant for all things technology, why not let him try his hand at coding? With today’s world placing great importance on programming and related fields, we’re certain such skills will come in handy soon!

Cue Early Coders Academy, a coding school known for teaching through their own registered learning software, CodeLab App, which enables students to learn more efficiently. Not only are the teachers able to deliver lesson content through the web, they can also keep track of each student’s progress by reviewing his or her code from the central workstation.

Interesting lessons
Previously known as Coding Labs, Early Coders fulfills its mission to make learning coding fun by engaging students in experiential learning. Each class leads up to a finished product at the end of a course, which not only gives students a sense of accomplishment, but also encourages them to understand how the different aspects of coding work together.

Experienced teachers
Your child will learn from experienced experts themselves, including three-time hackathon winner and Head Instructor Yu Jian Kong, who has won multiple coding competitions like the ST Electronics Security Apps Challenge and Hackathon Asia Singapore 2014.

Strong theory
While practical skills may be important, theory must not be left out either. Early Coders believes in helping students understand the logic behind each coding syntax, as this will making them more versatile and adapt better to other coding languages in the future.

More about the classes
Classes are open to ages of 13 to 17 and are held weekly over the weekends. Each class has around eight to ten students, and they get to move on to the next grade after about six months. Usually, there are two teachers during the lesson to assist and answer any of the students’ queries.

Expat Living Offer Alert
Early Coders have an exclusive offer for EL readers – simply quote EXPATL16 when you apply and get the first two lessons (starting July) free! Slots are given on first come first serve basis and the waiver is limited to the first 16 readers who apply. Email hello@earlycoders.com now to take advantage of this deal.

Who knows, your child may be on his or her road to inventing the next big thing, and when that happens, don’t forget to remember us!

Emily Finch

Always on the hunt for her next resto review, Emi has spent the last four years at EL munching and drinking her way around the island. Not one to turn down a free-flow opportunity, a personal highlight has been attending a super-brunch (yes, they exist!), and she now spends most evenings "power walking" it all off! Her active daughters and highly strung woofer keep her busy when she's not chained to her laptop managing digital content.
