Christmas and New Year’s Eve are just around the corner. If, like me, you’re not the most enthusiastic chef and don’t fancy cooking big meals at home, how about going down the restaurant route or taking away a ready cooked Christmas roast instead? Or for New Year’s Eve, head to a fabulous buffet dinner and countdown party – there’s no need to lift a finger.
Festive food to take home
Good news: you can preorder your festive food at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. Available to order at least three working days in advance online or at the hotel’s forecourt stall, this is a fab option if you’re looking to send gifts to friends or colleagues, or you want to buy one stand-out item for the table and cook the rest of your meal at home.
As well as a line-up of roasted ham, fish and lamb, turkeys are one of the standout food options. They’re ideal to order and take away if you want to ensure your bird is cooked just right (or, if you’re like me, you don’t have an oven big enough to fit one in!). Choose from roast turkey with chestnuts, duck foie gras stuffing, cranberry and port wine sauce ($188) or fragrant lavender roast turkey with orange, apple and cinnamon stuffing ($198), an interesting twist on the traditional favourite. Don’t forget dessert either. Choose from raspberry gula melaka coconut, white forest Bûche de Noël or roasted pistachio cream cheese log cakes for afters ($68 each).
Buffet fit to burst
Is there any happier sight than a food-laden buffet? Marriott Cafe, the hotel’s main restaurant, has a festive spread fit for all the family, and you can book in for either festive buffets until the 30th of December, Christmas Eve dinner time, or Christmas Day (lunch or dinner) depending on your own personal tradition. Crowd pleasers include slow-roasted Australian beef prime ribs, maple-glazed leg ham, roast turkey with dried fruits and chestnut bread stuffing; pan-fried duck foie gras with fig jam and port wine reduction; lobster thermidor, oyster florentine and all the trimmings. End the meal with log cake, eggnog tarts; spiced pumpkin panna cotta and more. (Psst – there’s also a chocolate fountain!)
Prices range from $68 for adults and $35 for kids for the festive lunch buffets and from $80 for adults and $40 for kids for the festive dinner buffets. The buffets on Christmas Eve and for Christmas Dinner are $160 for adults and $70 for children, while Christmas Day Lunch Buffet is at $138 for adults and $60 for children.
New Year noms
Looking for a spot to ring in 2019? Marriott Cafe is also putting on a New Year’s Eve Buffet dinner on 31 December. The price for adults is $188, including free-flow champagne, red and white wines, beer and soft drinks; while for kids it’s $88, including free-flow juices and soft drinks. It’ll be a memorable evening thanks to an epic spread of food, champagnes and wine chilled to perfection, plus festive décor and awesome acoustic, top 40’s and classic tunes to give everyone all the feels.
Alternatively, if you’d like to stay in for New Year’s Eve or head out closer to midnight, visit the Lobby Lounge for the Countdown party. With a cover charge of $35, you’ll enjoy a complimentary drink to bring in the new year in style.
