Should I make the switch?

26th March 2019 by Lindsay Yap 2 Min Read

Since the recent introduction of the open electricity market in Singapore, there’s been plenty of buzz about the pros and cons of changing electricity providers. At this point, you might already have switched, you might be in the midst of doing your research, or you might be still sitting on the fence! Sembcorp Power is one of the many companies offering a mix of electricity plans; we hear from two of their customers about their experience with the company.

Raphael Lim

Sembcorp happy customer family

“We’re a family of four with two children (daughter in her 20s and a teenage son) and a domestic helper. We consume quite a lot of electricity, and use air-conditioning daily, including having it on throughout the night. We choose Sembcorp as it has a credible reputation in Singapore. The company focuses on doing good for the community and plays a part in creating a sustainable future by developing green initiatives. We also felt that they offer excellent pricing for their services.

It started with my wife talking with several potential electricity providers. We decided to contact one of Sembcorp’s representatives over the phone. Although he was on leave that day, he took time to answer our questions. During our meeting the next day at the roadshow, he further clarified our questions. We felt at ease and were assured that we were making the right decision in going with Sembcorp Power.

We chose the 24 Months Fixed Price Plan and it has been working well. The switch was seamless and we haven’t been inconvenienced – we’re very satisfied with the service. We’ve also been impressed with the relative ease in the switch in the billing account. Our monthly electricity charges were previously high, but in the short time we have been using Sembcorp, our bill has been reduced by about one-third. We’re very pleased with this!”

Alice Tay

Sembcorp happy customer

“I live in a family of four adults and we’re generally careful with our electricity usage. We don’t use air-conditioning and we rarely use the fan. The other electrical appliances and electronic gadgets we have are a television, a wireless router, a washing machine, two refrigerators and three tablets. We decided to switch to Sembcorp so we could make more savings on our power bill. We also chose them as they’re a reputable company.

I registered online on the Sembcorp website and it only took about 20 minutes. I forgot my password the following month and but it was easily fixed as I was able to request a change of password online. The entire process has been easy and fast. I chose the 12 Months Fixed Price Plan and it has been going well so far. It was a seamless transition without any disruptions or adjustments. I’ve also noticed savings of about $20 to $30 each month.

In addition to the ease of the switch and the monthly savings, the company’s customer support team is very helpful and they respond promptly to email queries. When I called them, I was connected instantly to a customer support officer who was polite, knowledgeable and helpful.”
