An overnight family camp at Science Centre Singapore!

8th June 2022 by Yi Min Huang 3 Min Read

Most kids absolutely love the idea of sleepovers. Being away from home is exciting and allows them to build strong connections through shared experiences. If, however, you’re concerned about their safety, Jo’s Night Out at Science Centre Singapore is a win-win solution. Held in KidsSTOP, the Science Centre’s dedicated children’s gallery, it involves family camp activities with lots of learning. Camping together in Singapore will be an experience to remember!

Designed for kids from 4 to 8 years and their parents, this is where your child can enjoy a novel adventure in a protected environment with you. The bonus point is that they’re simultaneously exposed to science concepts through creative fun.

Besides camp activities that strengthen teamwork, hands-on STEAM and water play ensure there your child is fully occupied during the day. These learn-through-play ventures are not only entertaining, but they also help to boost your child’s cognitive development at a vital stage in their growth. As you guide them through the initial challenges, you also bond as a family.

Wondering what are some of the meaningful camp activities that are in store at Jo’s Night Out? Take a look below.

Things to learn while camping at Science Centre Singapore!

What’s a camp without a tent? Even though you’re camping at KidsSTOP at the Science Centre Singapore, you’ll be sleeping as a family in tents. As you set up your tents for the night in this camp activity, you’ll build up your family’s teamwork.

Before bedtime though, there are tons of camp activities. For example, kids will learn simple survival skills like how to signal for help and perform first aid.

There’s also an outdoor cooking session where your family will be able to roast sausages, carrots and marshmallows over a makeshift stove. Got a big eater? Fret not! There will be pizzas and pasta served for dinner, and sandwiches and other finger foods for supper too. You don’t have to worry about anyone going hungry when camping in Science Centre Singapore!

Waterworks camp activities

If your kids enjoy playing in water, then they will also be thrilled with the camp activities at Waterworks. As they engage in water play by navigating a maze of water jets or go on a giant seesaw in the pool, they’ll learn about the importance of water in a lively way.

Science concepts are also presented here. For instance, the giant mechanical Water Clock Tower has an anemometer that measures wind speed, a windsock to indicate wind direction, and a rain gauge to measure the amount of rainfall.

Over at a dry area, other camp activities will enable kids to witness real-life applications of scientific measurements and even experiment with dry ice.

Do pack swimwear and an extra towel to dry them off before the next activity.

Exclusive free play

Need more reasons to join the camp? A stay at KidsSTOP gives your family exclusive access to the facilities in the centre outside of general opening hours. Children will get exclusive free play for an hour (9am-10am) before it is open to the public and they will be able to play until the end of the morning session at 1pm. Think of it as VIP access for the day!

Among other things, this means you kids will be among the first to access the Dino Pit. It’ll transport them back to the Jurassic Age as they dig up “dinosaur fossils”. The more adventurous ones can slide down Giant J, which towers up to seven metres, or go through the Climber to reach a music room for some musical respite.

Eager to try overnight camping in Singapore?

If this sounds like your type of holiday fun, register here for a spot in Jo’s Night Out at KidsSTOP at Science Centre Singapore. There’s one camp session available: 17 to 18 June. Each camp runs from 3pm on the first day through to 11am on the next day. Tickets are priced at $430 per parent-child pair.
