Affordable furniture in Singapore

14th August 2019 by Kel Flanders 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.sg/buying-quality-affordable-furniture-shopping-singapore/

What is affordable furniture? It will depend on your income for a start, and your perception of money, and value for money. Ultimately, though, paying less can end up costing you more. It doesn’t take long for cheap furniture to be affected by the humidity in Singapore – it causes chipboard to swell and laminate to lift. Some surfaces on cheaper products will stain and discolour. So, you’ll have to re-buy in a couple of years. There may be some products you don’t mind throwing away after a few years, but it’s not the most affordable (or sustainable) option. By buying high-quality items that are going to look as good as they do now in a few years’ time, you’ll have the choice to take them with you when you leave Singapore or sell them on. And they don’t end up being another piece in a dumpster!

JONATHAN ROELANDTS and KATRIEN BOLLEN came to this conclusion when they were furniture shopping when they arrived in Singapore nine years ago. They ended up sourcing their own, and forming Soul & Tables.

How do you manage to source affordable furniture that’s contemporary and well-made?

We understand the challenge of finding high-quality and affordable furniture in Singapore that is also beautiful, but it is not impossible to find now! At Soul & Tables, we continuously source furniture and decor from all around the world. By listening to our customers, we understand their needs and we source for furniture that meets their requirements and expectations – in terms of quality and price. Our years of experience being in the furniture retail business also helps us select designs that fit the taste and style of our customers.

How do you source these products?

We visit exhibitions and factories all around the world and directly meet with manufacturers who make quality furniture. So, we see this process first hand. Besides being made with impeccable craftsmanship and some of the best materials available, we also ensure the products have a beautiful design that can enhance homes with any interior style.

What are your best affordable pieces and why?

Affordable furniture in Singapore needs to be long-lasting, well built and versatile.  These are some of our best sellers.

This has a sleek and universal design that fits most interiors. The extendable feature allows the user to maximise seating space – so, you don’t have to spend money on a large table that you might not use that often.

Oak Air Bed, from $1,900
The soft and light design is paired with rock-solid construction and timeless Scandinavian elements. The slightly reclined bedhead makes it a perfect bed to lounge and read on. This is solid wood furniture made with high-quality French oak – long-lasting and affordable.
