Budget staycations in Singapore

19th December 2017 by Expat Living 4 Min Read

One of the exciting things about living in Singapore is the proximity to Asia, Australia, and being only one flight away from Europe. Exotic destinations abound when it comes to travel. However, the Little Red Dot has a buzzing scene all of its own, and sometimes the hassle of large suitcases, aeroplanes (and airports), can all be a bit too much. Especially if the getaway is over a cheeky long weekend!

We’ve put together a list of our favourites that cover everything from quirky, classy, couples, family and mama-only staycation destinations in Singapore. Have a browse, and get to know the hotels that surround us. Make your next holiday a ‘holiday at home!’

Hotel 1929 – from $110/night
This hotel is a cosy yet sophisticated boutique hotel overlooking Keong Saik Road. Some of the rooms have their own private balcony, and all rooms have classic, retro furnishing to give it a cool feel. The terrace suites (if you want to splurge a bit more) have an outdoor bath where you can enjoy a relaxing dip while gazing at the stars.

Treehouse Villas at Changi – from $120/night
The Treehouse Villas in Changi are Balinese-inspired and perfect for someone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Located near Changi Beach and Changi Point Coastal Boardwalk there’s plenty to keep you occupied. The only downfall of this villa, is the fact that you can only book a room if you’re an SAF regular, however you can always get a friend from SAF to book a room for you and they don’t have to check in!

Wanderlust Hotel – from $160/night
The Wanderlust Hotel has three different types of room designs – Pantone, Mono and Whimsical. The rooms here fit many different types of personalities; for example, futuristic capsule-like rooms in darker monochrome colours for a more serious and sophisticated stay, or a tree house themed room for a playful and creative staycation.

Take some time out to relax at Lloyd’s Inn, Singapore

Lloyd’s Inn – from $180/night
The rooms in Lloyd’s Inn are really simple and elegant, some with a private outdoor area covered in greenery. Great for a chilled out afternoon when you’re stressed and just want to relax, read a book and bask under the warm Singapore sun. Added bonus: they are having a Mother’s Day giveaway right now!

Moon 23 Hotel – from $110/night
This hotel is discounted in price, but it’s all class. With one of the coolest hotel lobbies around, it turns into a bar at night, where guests enjoy a free cocktail!

Luxury on a budget!
Luxury on a budget!

Quincy Hotel – from $250/night
Yes, the Quincy is slightly more pricey than the rest of the hotels listed… however it has a bonus the others don’t – free breakfast, lunch, dinner, all-day complimentary pastries and everything in the mini bar. It also has a ‘Qool Weekend Staycation Package’ which is one of the top deals you could find if you wanted to spend a staycation here with someone special. You’re treated to a free bottle of wine and can join in activities like couple art jamming classes, movie nights in the pool and even cupcake baking sessions!

New Majstic Hotel – from $220/night
This hotel has 30 rooms, each of which are unique with their own little flare. New Majestic Hotel has some mini-lofts, rooms with private gardens and even one with an aquarium bathtub located in the middle. It also has ploh bedding, adding some extra luxury and comfort for your stay.

Hotel Re! – from $140/night
This hotel is located at Pearl’s Hill and is distinctly retro-themed, with colour coded floors and a strong feel of the iconic pop culture from the ’60s and ’70s. It has classic Marilyn Monroe wall murals and groovy looking furniture, creating a blend of modern and retro for your staycation.

M Hotel – from $165/night
If you fancy luxury but don’t feel like spending lots of money, the M Hotel is a great option since it’s half the price of other fancy-looking hotels. The rooms are designed for comfort and are furnished beautifully, with a service of 5-star quality. After a nice long day, you can chill out over a few drinks at J Bar balcony and enjoy live music from bands playing Tuesday to Saturday.

Bay Hotel – deluxe rooms from $184/night
The Bay Hotel is nicely surrounded by lush greenery, and is right across from VivoCity. The rooms aren’t too big but it’s a great hotel to stay if you’re planning on spending your time on Sentosa’s beaches (much cheaper than the resorts on the island). Save on your accommodation to splurge on other things!

Capri by Fraser – superior studio from $198, deluxe studio from $220
The Capri by Fraser hotel in Singapore is fantastic value for money. The spacious studio rooms have huge bathrooms, equipped kitchenettes and really nicely arranged decor, making the area look super modern and chic. This hotel definitely impresses without emptying your wallet!

This year we say farewell to one of Singapore’s iconic structures, with the Sentosa Merlion ceasing operations in late October. Here are some facts and figures about the huge sculpture. 25 - It's age; the Merlion was built in 1995, designed and sculpted by Australian artist James Martin. 37 - Metres in Height. The huge structure included two observation decks – one at the mouth and one at the top of the head. 320 - Scales on the Merlion, each shaped like an octagon, or the Taoist bagua symbol. 4 - The number of teeth, thought to represent Singapore’s four ethnic groups – Malay, Chinese, Indian and Eurasia. 6 - Remaining number of Merlions in Singapore (including a pair of 3m Merlion statues on Mount Faber, along with the famous 8.6m original statue at Merlion Park). 90 - Cost, in millions of dollars, of the new “Sentosa Sensoryscape” project that will take over the Merlion’s spot, including a linkway between Resorts World Sentosa and the beaches to the south.

Melinda heads to a wet market! (Full video on IGTV Or YouTube) Did you know: The term “wet markets” came into common usage in the early 1970s when the Singapore government used the term to distinguish these markets from air-conditioned “supermarkets” that had become popular with the opening of Fitzpatrick’s supermarket in Orchard Road in 1958.
Singapore Slings are an iconic part of the Lion City’s history since 1915. But which one is best? Watch (swipe) and find out if the one where they all began is tops. Watch the full video on IGTV or our YouTube! Did you know it was illegal for women to drink alcohol then? The creator Ngiam Tong Boon created the Sling so women could hide the fact that they were drinking in public. #singaporesling #expatliving #reviewcrew #igsg #longbar @raffleshotelsingapore
