Shopping for bedroom furniture in Singapore can be a very personal affair, especially if you’re looking that fits your style and needs like a glove. If you’re still unsure on what to focus on, we’ve asked our readers to give us a glimpse of their bedrooms and what suits them….

Our top criteria are style and quality. We are very design-conscious and we tend to seek out objects that are beautiful to look at and comfortable to live with. We believe objects are ‘living’ things, which are part of our life, and as such we need to embrace them as a part of the family. We select them just as we would a friend, so they are welcoming and generate a sense of hospitality.
Originals is quite unique in the market for its wood and designs. We visited the showroom and felt like buying everything off the floor! This year, we bought a beautiful four-poster bed that we absolutely love. It is the centrepiece of our bedroom. I have dreamt of a bed like this pretty much since I was little.
We also bought a teak console, which perfectly matches the teak dining table we bought from Originals a few years ago. It’s a great advantage when you can continue a collection without having to buy everything at the same time. The design of the table is fantastic, as it can be a square table for four but effortlessly converts into a dining table for eight. That, to us, is exactly the meaning of friendship – ready for more people at a moment’s notice.
We love the furniture we purchased from Originals and we always have guests complimenting on how beautiful it is. Not only do the pieces look great, they also reflect who we are.

Grant Harper and his son Jake, Australian
I was looking for something to replace my son’s old cot. I wanted a cool-looking bed that was fun but practical; something he would really enjoy sleeping in. I found HC Lifestyle while searching on the internet, and felt the staff were very friendly and helpful when we were selecting the bed.
We ended up buying a red racing-car bed, as Jake is obsessed with cars. He absolutely loves it! I would highly recommend HC Lifestyle, as we are all happy with what we have purchased. After all, it’s important to get your kids something that you know they will love to sleep in, so that you can also get some rest!

We were looking for durable pieces with a rustic, Asian-contemporary look to blend in with our existing furniture and remind us of our travels in Asia.
I saw an Origin Asia advertisement in Expat Living and realised that it was around the corner from our new house. We custom-ordered a California King dark-wood plank frame and headboard with a beautiful rustic turquoise, green and blue wash. I was particularly happy with how it looked: warm, simple and artsy. We also got a white-washed double-plank bed frame with beautiful carvings, and later ordered a matching chest. Both frames were specially ordered to fit the box spring and mattress.
My advice would be to measure your existing space and mattress carefully, and think through all your requirements before ordering. We forgot to consider that the box springs weren’t as flexible as a mattress, which made it difficult to fit into the frame surround for the two frames we ordered. Rebecca returned several times to work it out and ultimately got it right. She also took extra time to measure the bedroom doors to ensure the pieces could be moved inside the room for assembly. Additionally, when she came to our house for the initial consultation, she enthusiastically volunteered to help with the rearranging of my living room, which was a nice extra service.

Raymond and Francis Bosker, Dutch
We were looking to replace our bed frame as we have an oddly sized, extra-large mattress. The Dutch are very tall people – one of us is 1.9 metres! Having been to many shops in search of a suitable bed frame, we realised that most places only deliver standard Asian sizes, which would be too small for us ‘Dutch giants’.
We found Gallery 278 through an internet search. After we sent an email to the store about our search for a matching bed frame, Philip Ordonez responded with a friendly email, explaining that they could customise beds to any sizes. We made an appointment with him at the shop. Philip is customer-focused; he listened to our story and made suggestions that met our requirements.
Our bed frame has been awesome so far. People from a local community made it out of reused wood. We also chose an Asian-style headboard and customised the bed legs to make them extra high for us to get in and out of the bed easily. The higher bed legs also meant we could have extra storage space underneath.
Singapore is not the cheapest of cities. If you want to customise furniture, the price will be even higher. We are lucky to have found Gallery 278. They delivered a fantastic bed customised to our specific requirements, for a fair and reasonable price.

Michael Budig, Austrian, and Hema Kandasamy, Singaporean
We were moving into a new apartment and took it as a chance to replace our old bed that was made out of wood board and veneer. We wanted a new one that had a simple, minimalistic and elegant design, and preferably made of solid wood.
We stumbled upon Ethnicraft on the internet when researching furniture in Singapore. The customer service was one of the best factors about the store; we were surprised at the detailed knowledge the staff had regarding the origins of their whole range of furniture. Delivery was also timely and up to our expectations.
We chose the Teak Burger Bed with side tables and short bedhead; the different parts nicely come together, making it look like a coherently designed set. The horizontal seams of the bed are continued in the side tables, where they become part of the drawers. The bed is set back on the floor, which makes it look very light, almost seeming to hover, and the teak wood has a natural and warm effect.
We also bought a Teak Slice Dining Table. We love how easy it is to extend the table without too much effort.
We are very happy with the furniture we bought from Ethnicraft and would definitely return again. The products are reasonably priced and value-for-money in comparison to other stores in the market, with the store’s ecological approach being an added bonus.
