Thinking about a new look for spring? Here are some of the top beauty trends of the season, according to makeup artist guru Kelly Bilimoria.
Pops of Colour
Give your eyes an elegant edge with coloured eyeshadow and eyeliner. “Spring brings us colours ranging from understated to high-impact, from soft and diffused washes of blues, greens and greys to bold and bright acid orange and cobalt blue,” says Kelly. “Pretty shades of lavender and mauve eyeshadow will be the new brown of the season – they instantly make your eyes pop.”
The glam-rock look could become your go-to party look. Whether you prefer silver, bronze or gold, or are daring enough to try purples and blues, metallic and glittery eyelids are in! “Try a pop of glitter on the middle of the eyelid, a smoky eye with a touch of glitter or a striking metallic cat-eye flick,” recommends Kelly.

The Bare Minimum
The barely there look is back again with a focus on translucent skin and sheer makeup. “Of course, the perfect no-makeup look requires good skincare and a healthy complexion,” says Kelly. (So, take note – no sleeping with makeup on!)
“With no foundation, and maybe just a light dusting of powder, lips and cheeks are subtly enhanced with nude or blush shades to make the skin look radiant and fresh. This look will continue into summer with bronze tones for the lips and cheeks.”

This trend is the ultimate dream for lipstick lovers. If bright lip shades are your thing, look for vibrant orange and pink colours. Those who like red shades should try a wine-stained look with berry and cherry tones. Kelly says go for bold: “With these colours this spring, your pout will have to be big or go home!”
TIP: Soften the edges of your lipstick with a cotton bud, or mattify with a loose powder.

The key to on-trend hair this spring is to look dishevelled, in a sensual way. We have moved away from polished waves towards loose and deconstructed knots that look lived-in, with plenty of wisps floating around the face.
TIP: If your hair is short, try a simple plait intertwined with a hair extension. Dry shampoo and volumising spray will help you achieve this look.

Plenty of Ponytails
Whether it’s slick and glossy, softly crimped or air-dried, ponytails gathered low against the nape of the neck are hot this spring.
“Ponytails look sophisticated and chic,” Kelly says. “They’re so versatile and work with virtually any look. The key to make them work for you is to play around with the parting, and with straightened, textured, or curly locks.”
