Beauty 101: Say goodbye to chipped nails

American nail polish brand OPI is no stranger to the beauty-conscious. However, it was only when Alexis Links brought OPI to Singapore almost 11 years ago that we could get our hands on these tiny bottles of sparkly joy.

Still the sole distributor of the brand in Singapore, Alexis operates three nail salons that use the complete professional range of OPI products for the ultimate in pampering.

The Review

I’ve never been too fussy about my nails; to be really honest, I only trim them when they get way too long or, worse, when they start splitting. Not good, I know, so a visit to an OPI nail salon was long overdue.

After settling me into the big, comfy chair and offering me a uMama shoulder massage, two friendly ladies worked on me simultaneously, soaking my feet and hands to prep them for the spa mani and pedi treatment.

The three-part treatment includes a scrub, a 10-minute mask and a massage in a scent of your choice – I chose the popular green tea. Even the part I dreaded – the foot scrub – was pleasant. The pedicurist used a new OPI foot file for the scrub and asked during the massage if I wanted her to apply more or less pressure.

After carefully cutting my cuticles, the manicurist applied a coat of OPI Chip Skip before the base coat, which, she explained, would prolong the nail colour and prevent chipping. The hardest part was actually choosing a colour, as every one was appealing, but I eventually settled on a blue-grey shade.

After a relaxing one hour and 40 minutes, I walked out of the salon with pretty, colourful nails and a spring in my step. I guess they don’t call it manicure and pedicure for nothing.

Thanks to OPI Chip Skip, the nail polish is still intact and hardly chipped at all, even after a week and a half!
